hell i use vice grips. if its old who cares about damaging it? it appears to be oem. i use k&n filters since they are the best and they are wrench off filters so they are easy to take off.

If it's seriously seized on there I sometimes put a screw driver through the filter and twist it like a lever. I take no responsibility if it doesn't work though.

The k&n's are nice with the wrench tightner thing on it. Makes it to easy to overtighten though.

BTW, with the car on jack stands there isnt even close to enough room to get under the car. I can grab the filter easily but to take this pic I just pointed my blackberry upwards.

Is everyone using ramps or do you lucky f*cks have lifts?

Get one of these 3 legged (spider) wrenchs that fit on the end of a socket. They work great and adapt to the filter size. You want the smallest one they have usually.

Autozone usually has them in stock locally:

Once lowered my car no longer fits up ramps so I just use a jack and jack stands for oil changes. If you can't fit under your car after jacking it up you need a better/bigger jack so you can raise it higher. Of if you're stock ride height, get a set of ramps.

I'm still on stock suspension and without an Aero kit. I'm using a harborfreight race jack, which is pretty standard in Evo land. I'm going to switch to ramps for wheels on work. I can't believe you guys wiggle under there, I think I'd hyperventilate! I don't like over jacking with the race jack, the car starts to wiggle too much.

Maybe if I switch to a hockey puck I can get a bit higher with this jack?

Similar to the ones listed above
at autozone:
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/cat...oductId=297190

Bought it when my mechanic put my filter on too tight on my celica, worked liked a charm......just used it on the Evo two days ago(first oil change from the factory, which is supposed to be super tight), it made it so easy i though it wasn't working, cleaver design to be honest...as it turns it just tightens up on the filter

funny story, i thought about getting the regular one that fits my filter for the celica....saw this one above first, and decided against it.....so i tried on the regular one on the filter i had(in the store)....it got stuck, realized i had to ask the employee to get it off for me and he suggested the one i looked at initially, glad i took his advice

+1 on the spyder wrench. It's worth the extra couple bucks. I got the autozone one and it works great.
