Question CBE, tune, what next?

My Evo X GSR has CBE, air filter, and tune. +53 whp over stock right now.

What's the next best bang for your buck mod wise? I wanna keep it less than $1500 preferably (including the re-tune). From what I've searched on here, LICP and downpipe are sorta useless on Evo X unless you're going past 400 whp (which I'm not lol).

Any comments or opinions are appreciated. Thanks

I would get a test pipe since there's a lot of restriction there.

+1 on getting a test pipe. I would get a test pipe and an UICP and maybe an intercooler depending on the money.

What benefit is the test pipe? I've heard they throw CELs and/or don't pass inspection. Is this true? What kind of gains can I get from the test pipe?

What kind of gains can I expect out of UICP and FMIC?

A test pipe will prolly get around 15whp. You can get a TP with a CEL fix so it won't come on. A test pipe just replaces the stock cat. If you have emission tests, a TP won't be your best bet. Maybe a high flow cat.

A UICP and an intercooler will prolly get around 20ish too after a tune.

Test pipe eliminates your stock cat. I just got mine installed on Friday. Made my car slightly louder. You can get an adaptor for your O2 bung which wont throw a CEL. My mechanic told me that as long as your check engine light isnt on, then you'll pass inspection. Gains were decent. Prolly 12-15.

As for your next mod...down pipe? I dont remember seeing if you had that on your mods list or not?? Otherwise intercooler and hardpiping.

Good luck with everything.

Yeah NC has emissions law so I'm worried about the test pipe. But if that's true about "no CEL then pass inspection" then I should be good. Thanks for info guys!

Also, would I be able to install a FMIC and UICP before I get it re-tuned? I'd like to install the parts myself but I know nothing about tuning.

Honestly I don't think you'll need a retune for just a FMIC and UICP. idk someone else could chime in but I think you'll be fine. I would get retuned if you put a test pipe since I know that will free up the exhaust quite a bit. Only thing is, if you dont get retuned you wont know how much power you picked up

Well its just if you know if they'll take a mirror and look under the car. In WI they dont, but I couldn't tell ya for NC.

You don't need a retune with a UICP and intercooler i wouldnt think. Like the OP said tho you would want one with a test pipe bc it will prolly make your boost spike higher with the exhaust freed up. If you don't want a test pipe I would atleast go with a high flow cat.

Why is downpipe useless?

AMS claims that their downpipe adds 15whp

Thats an O2 downpipe which does add hp. The stock downpipe flows very well but the o2 housing is the restriction. downpipes=bad... o2downpipes=good

Change O2 Downpipe when you change your turbo. I don't consider it worth it without a turbo upgrade. In addition, if you get a clutch job, the O2 downpipe has to be removed in order to change the clutch. As others said, get a UICP and an Intercooler. And If you don't have one already, get a wideband and start logging. Although others said you don't need a re-tune, it's still a good idea to start logging so you yourself knows that your car is safe and you have a peace of mind. In addition, you could get a test pipe.
