what should be my first mods
I'm not really in a good position to tell you what you should do with your Evo, but I can give you an example of what I'm planning on doing with mine. My upgrade plan is as follows:
1) ETS CAI
2) Greddy single-tip TBE
3) ETS UICP/LICP kit
4) Tune
and then at a later date...
5) ETS FMIC
6) Tune
Best of luck to you, bro!

I haven't picked up my Evo yet either, but from what i've collected it's best to decide what your going to use it for (dd, track, show, autox, rally, etc.) For me I am all about daily driven/track car so from the people who use their Evos for this; light weight is key, as well as the suspension. Also decide how much money you wanna spend on it. My planned mods:
Tomei catback/ cat delete
AMS Down pipe
AMS intake/intercooler and pipes
Greddy v-mount oil cooler
JRZ RS Pro coilovers

here is an easy install and good option : but do not install , let the tuner do it when he tunes your car. Do not blow the engine withg a home install and no tune!!!!

/maybe we are talking about the same thing. but the boost controller is a different unit./
Your set up is a good set up , that is what i would do. But i would leave the OEM box and just get a drop in filter. Which is in my case too is a K&N.
Hey ya,
As I am a newbie to the EVO world as well here are a few things that haven't been suggested as of yet:
1. Run the right kind of oil in your car so you dont wind up messing it up down the road
2. Change the Oil Line out
3. Change the fuel line out
4. Manual Boost Controller or Electronic Boost Controller (There is too much proof that this is worth doing for all the nay sayers out there. I prefer a Electronic myself because I enjoy having a Low Boost Setting and a High Boost Setting)
5. UICP
6. FMIC
7. LICP (decide wether to keep the by pass valve or get a BOV at this point too)
At this point you could get a tune on your car and rock on as it's just beginners mods and you'll need to just drive your car to get used to it and can be a better judge of if you want more power or not. But, if you got the cash and the mod bug for more power is still there definitely would suggest doing Turbo Back Exhaust Mods and getting a tune.
With the right additional mods you'll enjoy your car more. Suspension, styling, or onto an upgraded turbo platform for mo powa.
Hope that kinda helps as in my opinion starter mods.
Its the route I am going as I have 2,000 miles on my EVO now and here come the changes.

my evo has 300 miles and im not sure wat to do first but here is what i think
get turbo guage and afr guage to get use to the levels your car should be running at, as for upgrades intake and cat back and a tune should be a good first step. as to wat brand/type do some research on diff. parts, research is part of the procces and you will lear new things. hope this helps

since youre running stock, i would go with coilovers and wheels before doing performance or cosmetic mod but that's just me. most people really go with those mod first thing.
thats what im planning on doing for my car since i recently bought it and its all bone stock.

Modify the nut behind the wheel.
Seriously, if this is your first car that you can modify, take your time and don't rush it. Do auto-x and HPDE to learn the car, go to meets and meet people and learn from their mistakes/successes. Have a goal for the car and don't just rush out their buying parts just so you can say I have so-so on my car.
