clutch play concern
clutch play concern
I'm going to try to keep this as short and detailed as possible!
Special thanks for all those people helping me with my previous 3rd gear lockout btw! It was a "spiraled shifter cable" whatever that means. The dude at the shop found it in under 15 minutes. And gave me a call right away! woot
Now onto more bigger concerns:
So I mentioned about how my car was test driven at the dealership and they said the clutch is fine... well.... one thing.
Randomly and it seems with the weather changes....my clutch resistance (full traveling play) is a lot lighter to the feel to modulate than usual. Before I was able to time my slip perfectly merging into traffic with no problems. Now it seems in these situations because of the easy pedal my engagement timing needs work. A nice hiccup of the car occurs because it's like relearning first gear every couple weeks. While I have been experiencing this problem for a couple months now, as mentioned it does go back to feeling normal after a few days, but then comes back.
I have checked my fluid level and it is topped of. It has never been opened. There are no visible leaks above the clutch pedal and around the reservoir level. The clutch grabs fine according to the dealership and when I take my sweet time with it engagement is normal. No problem shifting gears, no grinding, steep hill starts aren't a problem to catch with extra slippage. I haven't smelt a burning clutch in months, and at most I get moving @ 2.5k rpms
Because the clutch performs accordingly with just sensitivity issue at hand I was wondering if there is anything I should look into besides attempting to bleed to clutch to increase its resistance? Will a new OEM throwout bearing help? How much do you think they would charge for this install? Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Right now I am dealing with the issue by just sitting faster back. Less leg movement resulting smoother operation of clutch. But I would like to solve the issue, cause driving with my hands completely extended hurts!
Oh and happy halloween! stay safe every1!

Have you removed the clutch restrictor pill in the slave cylinder? I found that the clutch was MUCH more consistent over temperature after removing.
Also - glad you got your 3rd gear issue resolved.

Take out the clutch pill. It's in the bottom of the slave cylinder where the hydraulic line meets it. Take out the banjo bolt and move the line and it'll pretty much fall out if you give it a tap. If not take the slave off with two bolts and knock it out. I raced on mine before taking the pill out and it was always inconsistent and towards the top of the clutch travel is where it engaged. After I took out the pill it grabs consistently and more at the bottom of the travel, feels more like it should. It's just a very small plastic disc with a small hole in it and a spring, acts as an accumulator. It's night and day difference. As for the spiraled shift cable, I believe that means it had twisted in it's sheathing. So when you try and move it, it will actually bind up because it can't move like it should. Like twisting a shoe lace or something similar.
I had issues with both the engagement point and the pedal feel varying before removing the clutch restrictor. Was never very repeatable and always varied with the weather, but has been very consistent since removing. May not be the same issue you're seeing, but is something fairly quick to try and see if it has an effect.
Jim your symptoms are exactly like mine.
If this works, I will paypal you money for a 6 pack!
I wish I could remove this thing right now, but lent out a portion of my driveway for my neighbors haunted house so I am stuck in the garage.
Also a bumper to bumper morning commute first time driving without the pill may be a nuisance.
I may take the car to TurboTrix which is like 5 miles away from me to do the pill removal and bleed to system just for ****s and giggles. Probably a good chance to meet a local tuner too.
