Colored dash display

I saw a picture of an Evo X with a colored middle dash display. It wasnt just red like Ive normally seen. I cant seem to find it anywhere else, does anyone know if this was some kind of special order thing or an aftermarket thing or something??

Did anyone ever find out if its possible to swap the display out from 2008 panel to 2010+? I called the dealer when the 10s were coming out but they had no idea if it was possible with an easy swap out.

Dealers are rarely helpful when it comes to modifying or retrofitting something. I suggest trying to find one on the forums cheap and giving it a go. If it doesn't work just sell it on.

This isn't something that is "easily" swapped out. If you do find the newer color display, you've got to send both off to have the odometers matched. I've talked to my local mitsu service manager and he said they'd do it for me, however you would be out of a car for however long that process takes.

Yep. I work at a dealership and have seen this. We had a vehicle come in that had its digital display go out. We had to remove the unit send it with the new unit to get "legitimized" by the state for mileage. If you don't do this painstaking process the car has whats called a mileage discrepancy and basic becomes unsellable in the future.

That must be a state thing? In Colorado and South Dakota I've never run into that. I've replaced quite a few instrument clusters and have never had to do anything of the sort. We just program the mileage when we replace it and they never have mileage discrepancies or anything. Honestly it would be pretty easy to falsify mileage just by buying a cluster or by sending it out to get it reset and reflash the mileage.

^^ Well i am in Georgia and i know a lot of people here will replace instrument clusters to sell vehicles with "lower" mileage. So maybe it is a state thing

That's actually a federal offense... No matter what state...

Does anyone have a part number tho? I'm interested in the dash myself... And no, I don't care about mileage matching, just would like the part... As it's for my car and I don't intend to sell it so I don't care about mileage discrepancy, just a part # and a price.

on vehicles like our X the mileage is actually recorded elsewhere, not the actual cluster itself. it's a matter of the '08 only harness matching up with the new 2010+ model gauges.

Yes I work at a dealership, over 5 years now, just not Mitsubishi. I'm a Master VW Technician and a Certified Porsche Technician. We used to be Mitsu as well but sold the franchise which ended up going under within a year afterwards. We still do Mitsu work on our old clients and any vehicle we have the equipment for.

Most new vehicles have the mileage located in multiple modules including ECM, but when a cluster is replaced, this is the module you usually have to burn the mileage into and it's a one time deal, otherwise you have to send it out to get reset, or get a new one, and the other modules read and record the mileage from the cluster. Although every manufacturer is different so I may be partially wrong.

As for the part number, you could just call up the dealership and get a part number and quote for a 2010 EVO, or search the online parts store for 2010 clusters. I would assume the connectors are the same, the only difference being the colored display but same information, I doubt they would change that just for a colored display, too much in production change costs. One reason our cars are wired for things they might not have (i.e. heated seats).

But still we have no confirmation... Can it be done without issues or not? (disregard the mileage, just - will it work)
