Getting an Evo X.. what year?

Okay guys first time long time I guess lol. anyway on to the point

After drooling over Evos for 10 years, I've fallen in love with the Evo X. Almost bought one in 08 but the wife talked me out of it for the sake of our newborn. .. almost 3 years later.. I'm getting one.

I need to stay below 35k
I want a GSR SSS.(personal preference to have a manual vs TS-SSC) but what has me concerned are the little differences between 08,10,11. what's new, different, better, worse? What are the recommendations? is the SSS really worth it? I plan on probably putting in my own head unit, but I like the HIDs/fogs/and the key thing. (forgot what it's called)

Thanks for the pointers guys
-Steve

Differences:
color displays on the dash and different tail light colors...

Now recommendation and this is only my opinion:

Lets say that the SSS package costs 2k more than the base GSR. I'm not sure, but there may be another option you can tackle on....
You've decided to save that 2k and do your own shopping. After browsing these forums and getting hooked up with deals you have:

300$ Full Carbon Fiber SSS wing from PVR motor sports with its own mounting kit and requires no drilling of extra holes.
100$ Garmin Nuvi easily can be updated through torrents and no yearly subscription cost (idk if mitsu has a navi subscription tbh)

FastKey??? ... you still have to put the key into the ignition hole....
so IDK why it would be so hard to press a button to unlock the door if you gotta take it out of your pocket to start
Spend 200$ and buy a remote starter.

Sound system? It's about the driving experience, and can be added later.
SSS sound system is mediocre. 45 limit on base GSR is still enough to make your ears hurt after a little bit of listening.
It does justice if you are a normal person. I want people staring at the car for the car not because I am blasting queen in bumper to bumper NJ traffic lol.
Buy a cheap sub if you want that extra base and continue saving your money.

Ebay a nice HID setup.

So now you are left with mad dough.

Secondary thoughts:
Let's face it you are getting the SSS for the wing and HIDs right? A lot of people I know with base models removed their spoilers or added a voltex and threw on hids without modifying the projectors. Yeah it is very possible (blinding so AIM low). But after doing this. I can say I can't tell the difference right off the bat if it was SSS or not. Chances are your gonna do some carbon fiber later and it will further steer away from the stock SSS look.

Any money saved is money saved.
My first mods to my car were the ETS intake and Greddy Ti-C and I was more than happy with the dude your car sounds sick other than worrying about them saying LOL you look like a base lancer.

Um, that's not at all correct.

Fastkey lets you keep the keys in your pocket at all times. opening and locking the doors and trunk and also starting/turning off the car. instead of using a key in the ignition, you turn the ignition switch.

if the battery in the fastkey fob dies (and the dash will let you know multiple times when the battery is getting low), you simply take the key out of the fastkey fob, turn it around, snap it into place, remove the ignition cover (that you normally twist) and plug the key in and operate like a normal car.

it's a great feature and i absolutely think its worth the money.

That actually does sound pretty cool now that I think of it. Personally, they should of added an auto start feature somewhere into the setup too!

Don't think much changed, at least for what you want, from the 2010 to the 2011. So i'd say, start shopping for a new/used 2010 and go from there, if you can't find what you like after like a month or two, start looking at the 2011.

The changed some things in the 2010 over the 2008, that make things nicer.....the AWD mode button(should have never been on the steering wheel), the color display, and the stock tune on the 2010 was better(though you should get a custom tune anyway)

Either way, should be able to get it within your price range

I'm now really spoiled with the fast key with always keeping my keys in my pocket. Seems like a PITA when I drive my other cars to have to use a key.... Also really like the Rockford Fosgate, so I would recommend the SSS. If you want new the 2010 would be the best bang for the buck if you can find what you want, especially if they have financing incentives. Still loving the 0% financing.

I have the sss on my X and love it. I wouldn't have bought it without it. But I would like some of the new packages.

The 2011's don't have a SSS package. It is now the SS. The big spoiler comes standard on GSRs.

Also now they have a leather and sunroof package for the 2011 GSR's which I believe is the same interior as the MR Touring.

I'd look for a 2010 *right now*. Mitsu is offering 0% and dealers will always deal a bit on last year's model. You might not get your choice of options or colors but the price is a huge difference. I bought one of the last 2008s and although I had to buy a fully loaded car, I got it for what a new SSS car would cost...aero and NAV were essentially free.

The 2010 has some nice updates worth having.

I like fastkey, HIDs and the Rockford so I think that SSS is worth it. Aero and NAV are not worth it for the money.

Hey guys thanks for all the response, little slow to get 'em but the timing was perfect.

I just found out they are having a 0% APR on all 2010 models, so I'm going out shopping TODAY for one.

I liked the points about saving money on the wing/HIDS.. but yeah.. that Fastkey is ultimately what I really wanted, however I can't justify 2k on the fastkey alone. So honestly it'll come down to price differences between a BASE and SSS. They have one 2011 in the color I want and I'm going to look at that as well and if that can come down to my range then I'm shooting for the 2011 from what I hear the FUSE is standard (or an option) in it and it's pretty cool IMO.

So I saw someone mention some differences between the 2008/2010 I can get an 08 for almost 3-4k less then a 2010 anyone think there's a reason I should/shouldn't get the 08 over the 10? Thanks guys I'll be checking this thread while I'm out shopping today, and might post status updates or further questions as I'm out.

The 2010's come with the color lcd screen but they are pretty much the same cars. The 2010 factory tune is a little better but you really need a tune either way. The 08's had a few MINOR recalls that I think were fixed in the 10's (a new hood latch, and a new design on a fuel line) but don't let that scare you away. O, and the 10's have a plastic valve cover while the 08's are aluminum.
