I mean 400whp isn't a necessity. But I do want something that is fun! The vette and ws6 were only fun when I was in the throttle. The rest of the time I had to put up with annoying creaks and rattles. Not so muh in the vette but the ws6 for sure.

My main concern is if I am pushing 350whp-400whp what stuff tends to go wrong with the car? What breaks and what needs to be replaced?

It really comes down to drive-train abuse,

If you drop the clutch you're going to break something,

If you slip it and treat it as it should you'll be fine except for the stock clutch sucking, I'd get a twin-disk for the setup you want...

I had a 414whp/404wtq IX (I know, not the same car but still applies) and it was a very fun daily driver. You will need to upgrade your clutch at some point with those power levels. It all depends on how you drive it in all honesty. I basically got on mine very often but almost never launched, and it lasted exceptionally well considering how much torque it generated around 3500rpms. If you go around launching at stoplights very often, you will break something.

I won't beat the living crap out o it but I will get on it respectively. Probably wouldn't ever launch it without a 1 foot roll out. Yikes twin disk =$$

What do these cars cost to maintain? Like brakes and wear items?

I have seen many things that a contradictory on here.

Questions for you:
Is a strait line more important than track?
Are you wanting to Mod the car?

I have had multiple issue with my car because of power. Stock clutch is horrible. Stock clutch master cylinder will go out after you put a heavier clutch on. I am a little over 450whp and I love my car every single day. And I have a FP RED which is a little bit bigger than an FP green.

i don't make 400whp (well i make 424whp on a dynojet) and when daily driving, i'm the highest HP thing on the road. people don't all commute to work in street pounders. so my advice is if you like the evo X, get one and find a good balance between reliability and power.

I have both a new GTO and the EVO X. I think the GTO is somewhat compareable to the G8. The GTO is an awesome Grand Touring car with power from idle to redline in every gear. It gets to 155mph governor in a hurry and does it without breaking a sweat. In the canyons, its a little bit of a handful even with traction control on, some pedders bushings and NT555 tires. It rides real nice and still gets 23 MPG around town.
The EVO on the other hand, wants to go fast all the time. The turbo spools fast and is hard to keep it out of boost. (my girls WRX is easier to keep out of boost, as well as my HX35 talon...) It gets about 21 MPG driving it back and forth to work if I keep my foot out of it. It is amazing around corners and in the canyons. They are two different beasts completely.
In conclusion, buy both! ha. Buy the G8 for long road trips, comfort, and straight line speed. Get the EVO for canyon runs and fun sprited corner taking. I love both of them.

You don't NEED a twin-disk, I just like doing it right the first time and want something that is easy for a DD...

If you go aftermarket maintenance isn't bad...

Brakes you can get for shy of 300 if you find a deal, other wear items aren't bad...

If you go OEM parts, I think they quoted me 1300-1500 for the brakes at the dealer when I went in for recall stuff... I laughed and told them I had that under control...

Clutch is really your big concern in the 'wear items' department...

If you get an MR the tranny fluid costs a pretty penny, but the GSR isn't bad at all...

Yeah I would get the GSR. How often do you hve to replace brakes and tires? I heard they tend to wear a lot faster then a rwd car.

I don't know what I want. To be honest I get tired of the "heavy" feeling of both my old ws6 and my vette. I definitely want something that is nicer and feels more "put together" the vette is a lot better then the ws6 in that category. Btw my vette is a 99 FRC. I lik straight line performance but I don go to th track an don't do much street racing. Every now and them I'll run into someone who wants to run em but not very often. I don't know if I like road course as I've never done it but it looks like a f'ing blast!! I want a car that is nimble and fun but can hold it's own.

What all is done to your car?

If you're going to the track it will obviously change things a bit,

But everyday stuff I changed my drive around town brakes last year and they are still going strong,

My tires I have 2 sets (winter/summer), I got both in September 2009 so two season on my summers and starting the 2nd on my winters, both have a healthy amount of tread left...
