Looking at an X....Few questions....
I liked everything about the Evo X EXCEPT the straight line performance. In fact it actually felt like a mazda speed 3 I test drove a couple years back. Where as the older evo's and sti's felt pretty strong in comparison. What is the stock Evo X boost level? Cause the one I test drove had some stuff done to it and had a boost gauge. It just felt really really slow. I wonder if there was something wrong with it or the boost was turned down?
3" turboback
ETS 3.5" intercooler
EPM o2 dump
Precision 1000cc injectors
Walbro fuel pump
Forge Unos MBC
Perrin intake
Fighters Garage LICP
Forge WGA
Yep pretty basic mod list, damn I miss it...
When I get my X, I will most likely go the route you have with an FP red or maybe a CBRD BBX as I know the stock turbo is not going to satisfy me. I'm looking at your fuel setup for the FP red and all you have listed is 1000cc injectors for E85. Are you running a single walbro or a double pumper? Also what are your injector duty cycles?

tires will last typically 10,000-15,000 miles of daily driving
brake padscan last 25,000-30,000 miles of daily driving (they can be had aftermarket fairly cheap and it's a very easy DIY job)
oem tires are high performance summer tires (snow and temps below 40 are advised against)

Wow that would mean replacing the tires yearly. Seems like an awful low amount of miles on tires.
This.
It felt really slow because it is really slow stock. A four cylinder with 291 horsepower and 3550 pounds does not a fast car make. The older Evos felt faster because they are faster, they make about the same power and weigh a lot less.
I think you should get a G8. You've had a TA and Vettes, the G8 is definitely screwed together better than those (definitely a 4th gen Fbody). I think its really hard for an LSx guy to go import and vice versa.
I respect domestic muscle, but I could never own one. The language is just way too different. I think you would find the same thing with an Evo having what you do, the cost of so many parts and extra upkeep would be annoying to you.

I'm starting to get the vibe that you want to be talked out of an evo not into one
every bit of information you get, you twist to make it a drawback
No in fact the exact opposite. I want to be talked into getting one. I want someone to say buy the evo have it tuned and throw on a few parts and have an awesome and fun daily driver that would smoke the G8 and WS6. I dont know what will feel fast to me. I know my buddies 400whp evo is pretty f'ing fast to me and honestly I think its a blast to drive! So much horsepower and yet sooo smooth and nimble and VERY easy to drive. I just think the older Evo VIII's look a little too "boy racer" to me. Just my opinion and no offense to anyone who drives one. But I do like the looks of the X just looks more in style of todays market and all the body parts flow together really nice.

Tires wear faster on these ares, and are expensive.
Clutch will go out pretty fast if you start modding seriously.
Clutch master cylinder will fail on aftermarket clutch.
Brakes are expensive, wear fast.
Aftermarket parts are more expensive, less plentiful.
The cost of ownership will flat out be higher, and the car will never get anywhere near to what that Vette is without a berserk financial outlay. You ought to be looking at Evo IX or you need to look at a G8. Lots more headroom in that engine for less money, and lighter car to start with.
There are sticky threads at the top of both general sections with tons and tons of data. If you are serious about these cars, that's your place to start. A thread like this answering questions can't possibly be as exhaustive as that. There are so many things that we even haven't thought to mention yet, nor could we in such a small scope.
Good luck.

From what your saying an evo 8 or 9 without the wing ( no wing=no boy racer) is what you are looking for. You can get good power, they are affordable to buy, mod, and it'll serve all your needs. All of what you are asking requires some common sense and some maintaining of the car. stock 9 turbo or hta green with basic bolt ons and some suspension mods and it'll do what your vette does and probably do it better for half the price and still get 25mpg's. no offense. I've had mustangs and camaros and my car destroys both when you compare dollar for dollar mods. Just my .02. Oh and you dont need the best of the best parts from the big guys to do it. Do some research and you can mod safely and affordably. Good luck on your decision. The X is a beautiful car as is the g8 gt but gxp is badass

However, if hearing the sound of a V8 puts more of a smile on your face more than anything else, then buy a G8. I have a lot of friends that are muscle car guys that I talked into buying a fast import (Supra, STI, RX7, etc). They would mod the car, make it fast (400 to 500hp streetable) and rag the crap out of it. But in the end, they went back to American V8 muscle and are much happier since then. Either way, good luck with your choice. Just try to figue out what you enjoy in a daily driver and see which one does it better.
