I've used meguire's ultimate quick detail and quick wax sprays on mine for the past 2 years and have had no problems.

I dont see the benefit of covering just half the roof or roof even. I mean the clear bra is pretty much for protecting the paint from chips right? Just save your money and put it towards other mods I have thought about putting a clear bra in the front because Im starting to see small chips and I freakin hate it

I'm debating a clear bra at all, or just putting on tons and tons of wax.

if you're unsure I would recommend covering the area that flares out on the rear doors... that way you get a feel for cost/install quality... I had mine done this way to make sure my installer was going to do a good job

btw, I never did the roof... if you take a good look at the molding on top part of the windshield it will deflect the majority of rocks... plus, i had to stop somewhere.. i didn't want to cover the whole car.

Would putting tons of wax even do anything against stone chips?!?!?

I know some people don't like clear bra... don't like the line that some of the products leave. But you know what... worse case... I rather see a faint line on the hood when the car is dirty than have the car covered with stone chips and looking like it has a polka-dot paint job.

I saw an EVO X that got beaten up without clear bra on the hood... and the front edge of the hood (between the vents and front edge) looked absolutely HORRIBLE.

i see the benefit but personally would not, if you really wanted to protect it and liked the look get some of the vinyl carbon fiber stuff and wrap the roof in that

Ya, I agree. I didn't end up putting it on the roof.

It comes off fairly easy if your installer didn't strip the wax before applying.

I'd say no need... but I've both attempted to alter my driving style and made peace with unfortunate things happening. You simply can't avoid these things when you put it on the highway every day.

I mean really.... where do you say enough is enough? You could clear bra the whole car.

I think somewhat driving style is going to dictate how much you need to do.

- I dont follow the next guy too close (I leave like 3 car lenghts)
- I change lanes if Im behind a truck with no mud flaps
- I DONT take my car off road or "ralley" it

If you DO the above that 3m the crap out of it....
Ideally that would be 3 seconds, not 3 car lengths....

I'm in the same situation right now. I have an appointment this Friday and need to decide what to have wrapped. The 'standard' price where I'm going includes the bumper, 12" of hood and front fenders, mirrors, headlights and fog lights. The only other area I am considering is the flared area of the rear doors leading to the rear wheel wells. Ideally I should go find a few used X's on a car lot and look where the stone chips are.

Anyone want to suggest anything different from your experiences?

there's a tiny plastic lip on the glass that I think will cover the edge of the roof,.. this is one of the reasons I decided not to cover it, the other is because of the advice from this thread

X2

No one need clear bra, or anything, it's about driving habits. I drive my car in winter here in Canada, on salty and sandy roads and I NEVER follow someone in the back more than the time to deccelerate or to go past him. My front bumper has about no chip and I do 20kmiles a year. It's not 3 seconds behind a car that will chip paint, it's more about following people for long minutes.
My front bumper will hold very long time without the need to use a scratch remover.
