Horrible gas mileage???

Hey I have a 2008 PB Evo X MR. I only have about 4100 miles on it, I don't drive it much and I've had it for about 1 and a half years.

Soon after I had bought it I received a recall notice for the fuel line replacement. Before I performed the recall I noticed that my car would usually max out to 260-280 miles in one tank. I knew the car wasn't going to have great gas mileage, but I was fine with it at those numbers.

So after I had performed the recall I had noticed that my max miles in one tank slowly dropped over time. It was slowly going down by 20 miles each time I filled up the tank. Eventually it has gotten to the point where it says that I only have 160-190 miles max in one tank. I even noticed the difference when I drove the car to work every now and then. My commute is 40 miles one way mostly on the highway. I usually have to fill up the next day so in two days my tank is empty. I have a half tank in one day. I think this is pretty ridiculous, I understand this is a performance car, but is this really how the car is or does mine have a problem or something.

I think if its a problem it has to do with the fuel line recall because after I had replaced it I started to notice a significant drop in my gas mileage. All of my observations were done according to the digital gas mile indicator under the trip menu and the center display in my tach/speedo.

I also do understand that the car has a 14.6 gallon tank and the EPA standards are 17/22, but I did the calculations and the car should need to be filled up at least at 247 miles. When I first bought the car I was getting 265 to 274 miles out of the car and I was happy with that, but now I think its becoming a problem since I am only topping out at 185 in one tank.

I've also heard there has been another some sort of recall or something, but it was about a reflash for the sst or ecu or something I'm not exactly sure but would this reflash have anything to do with it. Could it be the reflash that will give my mileage back? I remember reading I think on another forum that someone factory reflashed their car and they got more gas mileage out of their car because they said that their car was "running to rich"...I'm not sure what this means, but could this be my problem?

I am very concerned and I would greatly appreciate feedback, sorry that was a little long, but I wanted to make it as clear as possible.

Thanks

Walk around the car after you drive it and see if you smell fuel.

If not take it to the dealer for the reflash.

You should be getting about 80-90 more miles out of a tank for sure.

I already know that it isn't anything leaking, but thanks for the info. and yeah I'm probably going to make an appointment tommorow to get the reflash. Also would you happen to know what exactly the reflash really changes?

maybe go back to the dealership and explain that afterwords you starting getting less mpg . and how much fuel is being put out perhaps? how much fuel going to injectors

when did you get the recall done? Asking as there are seasonal differences in gasoline and although it should not account for such a huge change you will see slightly worse gas mileage during the winter months.

Has anything else changed about the car? Ecu reset, different wheels/tires? Again these items should not account for a big change but can explain some differences in gas mileage.

I agree with the previous comment that you should warm the car up and then take a walk around to see if you smell raw fuel from the exhaust.

That almost makes me angry! WTH do you drive an Evo? To get that kind of range you have to completely stay out of boost...

You'd be WAY better off with the normal Lancer...
I forgot, you only have highways, no Autobahn, so your gas milage will be a bit better naturally, but still, that's way to far on a tank for it to be worth it to drive an evo...

You should get UP TO 180 Miles per tank, preferably less!

Rather than guesstimate by 'miles per tank' why don't you actually figure out your MPG after you fill-up? It takes like 10seconds

Agree! 180 miles is a little more than what I get!

I get 240 per tank almost down to the decimal. You're leaking fuel or something lol. Make sure to actually calculate what you're getting and not reading the dumb numbers on the digital console.

HA I'm lucky if I get 210 by the time the 2nd gas light comes ones. 12-12.5 gallon on fill up puts me 17mpg average. But I also have a roof rack and bike up there few days a week. As much as it would be nice to get 20mpg it would suck driving that slow

I get about 19mpg with the grandma'ish style driving i have! estimate around 200mi per time i have to fill up and i put in approx 11-12 gals by the time i'm on the last tick of gas, right before the light starts flashing. Last week though i let it run till the light started flashing and i got around 250miles... put in about 12.5 gals of gas which put me around 20mpg.

btw i'm tuned with full exhaust, intercooler, I/C piping and intake.

How in the world did you get 260-280 MPGs per tank? Is that going downhill with the wind behind you? I get 220 consistently (but never really pushed it passed that), and i'm in traffic all day long.

Also, you've had the Evo for 1.5 years and you only have 4k miles on it?
