What Is This Button? (Auto/Manual by shifter)

I was watching some youtube videos and came across this one. What is the button in the middle by the shifter? I know the one on the right is the AWC... the one on the left is to turn off the steering headlights... but what is the button in the middle that says Auto/Manual?

So... it's intercooler spray button. Another item on the list of things North America doesn't get.

So what do Japanese guys get that we don't?

- manual intercooler spray
- headlights that turn with the steering wheel
- stereos with iPod control (they had this since the car first came out)

it is indeed an intercooler sprayer. use to have it in my first EVO 8 (03 only) i honestly dont think it made a difference on how it performed. I found it most useful when the car was getting dyno tuned, they was able to manually spray the intercooler when it was getting heat soaked. I ended up removing the tank that held that windshield washer fluid (that is what it uses) to make more room under the hood for my custom intake.

trust me you are not missin out on much, intercooler spray is very pointless. 03-04 evos had it and i never use mine, besides the cool effects of showing off to other people lol. STi's have them too ( i think)

no, to do that while the SST / MR is in "D", flick the entire stick over to the left. you can also do on the fly manual for going up hills and such if you flick the left paddle even when it's in D

The US cars are very different from the JDM, European and GCC cars ...... we have seen that here in the UAE where there are a few imports .... The USDM cars have a lot of corners cut on them to get the price down and to comply with the US regulations!

U are correct that it's the IC sprayers but it's not on the 03 only. I have an 04 VIII and have them. I found it to help on the drag track just before I did a run.
