Wink How NOT to hyper mile an EvoX

I added an Ingen Intake yesterday and took off for San Diego from Los Angeles; I blew off the UIP the first time I made boost (forgot to tighten a clamp) not having a screwdriver with me I continued on my trip with an open upper intercooler pipe and 0 boost! When I stopped for gas at 120mi I was getting 27 mpg in “stop and go”/”slow and go” freeway driving as opposed to my normal 22 mpg in similar conditions. So... just loosen a clamp and you are good to go on your hyper mileage trip!

I cannot honestly recommend this technique as I don’t know if it might cause damage, besides, it can be most embarrassing when that Subi rev’s at you; it might save you a ticket though! Nobody could tell I was WOT, they were just wondering what all the noise was and why some lame lancer was holding everyone up on the acceleration lane to the freeway!

2010 MR-T (SST)
Stock clutch packs
OEM DiaQueen SST fluid
SSP trans Deep Sump
SSP Front mount trans cooler
Ingen Intake w/UIP
CBRD BBX full Turbo
AMS DP
RRE Rally test pipe
MXP II CBE
DP 1000 injectors
BlaqOps single pump
WORKS tune using OP (cleaned up by Bryan)
Green relay (yeah that’s it, it MUST be a faulty fuel pump relay!)

I can't say that blowing out all that metered air is good for the vehicle. but a 5mpg boost in fuel mileage is pretty good...

Or sucking in unmetered and unfiltered air...

Yea that's not a good idea. None of the air entering the engine is filtered. And you would run extremely rich. The car is still dumping a lot of gas because the MAF is still reading a lot of air.

Not good, see my attempted retraction above. Rich? nope, 14.7 on the WB in cruise and the cruise trim at -4%, 13 at wot (probably because of no load) and no knock.

Important lesson for all: If you have a big boost leak it very well could also be a vacuum leak in off-boost conditions meaning you're sucking unfiltered air into your engine.

OK I have done enough groveling, I'm out of here, going to my corner and sulk! I f***ked up and I'm lucky to have got away with it. Funny thing is wideband AFR's, trims, and knocksum were all OK, might have overspun the turbo and injested some unfiltered air though. Bye!

Your car will survive, not like you ran for thousands of miles like that

The Evo X ECU uses a combination of speed density and MAF signals so that would explain why your AFR's and trims were still in-line.

why would you hyper mile an X? that's definately not what it's for. i personally like to rev my engine or floor it every time i see a prius, just so i can upset the smug driver, and offset the stupid carbon footprint

That's what I need, a car that can survive ME! OK I re-retire from the thread!
