New member new Evo X

Hey guys just picked up a new 2010 Evo X GSR a week ago. Actually I bought a used 08 MR first with about 23k on it from the same dealership and 30 miles from the dealership the tranny blew...to make a long story short, the dealership took care of me and hooked me up with this Evo for below invoice. I absolutly love this thing just not looking forward to teaching the fiance to drive manual. Hence why i bought an MR first.

No mods yet but i have the stock navi and the SSS package even tho i hate it cause the aluminum shift knob is cold as **** in the winter here (WI).

Since im bored im gonna explain the story behind the tranny on the MR.

Saw the car on autotrader and noticed that it had an AMS badge above the stock evo mr badges on the trunk. The dealership had no idea about AMS was. The salesperson thought they might have put on the mud flaps that are a mitusbishi option when building a car on there website. I ignored him and did my own inspection. I noticed a couple dings and scratches around the intake covers (which is something that AMS mods with there own stage 1 or 2 tunes). I kept asking about how the car came in, they said it came here the way i was looking at it "stock." So we purchased it and left. I had a 100 mile drove home (dealership was in IL. and i live in WI near mil.) and after being on the highway for about 30 miles the car lost all power to the wheels and wouldnt move. The engine would rev as if i was in neutral. I pulled over and to my luck i was on a 4 lane bridge so there was no emergency lane. After pulling over and turning the car off then on and almost getting hit by 3 cars i took off. As taking off to catch up with traffic the service engine soon light came on and the info display read "service required." The car wouldn't shift out of 5 gear not even in manual mode. while pulling over to the side again the car would shift down from 5 to 3 to 1 (my guess was one of the two 3 gear boxes was shot.) pulled over called the dealership and u can use ur imagination of how the phone call went. the phone call summary had went in my favor and got word from 2 managers that they would fix the problem no charge. Drove the rest of the 70 miles in 5 gear at about 60 mph to save my fuel and lose my mind at the same time. woke up at 530 the next morning and was at the dealership by 8. on the way up there tho i was able to manual **** my way up to 6th gear but i never reved past 2500 and just babied the car. It was really strange cause anytime i remotley gave it to even 4k the car would go in crazy mode and either lose power to the wheels or just sit in 5th gear. finally around noon after i got back from culvers (walking distance from dealership) they had figured out somewhat what was wrong and the finace manager wanted to speak with me. we talked he said the car was gonna cost around 14k to fix and that the pervious owner had a new tranny put in at 15k miles through mitsubishi and it was kept under the table (no one but mitsu and the owner knew about this.) they offered me a white or black SE or a Black or silver GSR. took the black gsr obvioulsy. told the finace to deal with it and ill teach u how to drive it.

I called AMS and gave them the previous owners name and they have no records showing that they did any work. I still believe they did it just was under a different name. My guess is either just a reflash or a stage 1 or 2 tune. But thank god it happened at the time it did and not a month down the road.

Story was long sorry but it was truely and awful experience for buying my first Evo a car i have always wanted.

Man, that's horrible. Atleast they were able to work with you and looks like you got out of that mess on a good note! Where is "Thiensville"? Anywhere near Milwaukee??

First off there was no indication of the car being modded besides an AMS badge which like i said im assuming it might have just been reflashed which in turns mean higher power output and the 08 MR tranny's werent built to handle more then stock power i believe once u surpass 350 trq the tranny will start to have problems (correct me if im wrong.) this is what ams told me. and i am grateful for them taking care of me never said i wasn't

I wonder if the car was anyone on here's?

But congrats on the new new car. I also bought my X in Illinois too, the only WW GSR at the time when I was looking to buy 2 years ago (wow, time flies!)

It's good to have another X in the Milwaukee area (just a little north). I go fishing at the damn in Thiensville from time to time. Teach your fiance to drive manual now, then use it as an excuse to get a new clutch later down the line. LOL!

Hope to see ya around.

Are u located in Grafton cause if remember correctly i remember seeing a X across the street from a gas station just north of those railroad tracks. And as teaching the fiance goes i have never been more fustraded. Every time we got done with a lesson i get out of the car saying sorry to my evo. it doesnt help that she is like 4' 11" and can barley put the clutch to the floor

Wow close, I live a block from UW-Milwaukee. When spring rolls around, we should get a mini cruise with some of the other guys in the area.

Family first! But there is a AMS single tip for sale in the ForSale section. Idk if you're ready yet but just a heads up.
