no no no, look just like a tint ticket in my state, if you recieve a Sero(safety equip repair order) or something of similar thought like a exhaust ticket they force you to go to an inspector, all he/she will do is check the decibal level of your exhaust and make sure it is within there "approved limit". Now laws vary from state to state and im also aware that cali has a substantial amount of modified car laws that i kinda kno of, that make every state different. But speaking from working at law enforcement agency, i see em come in all the time. Window tint, they check it with a tint gun. exhaust they make you go to a state inspection lot and check it for smog levels and noise. I assume thats what they will do, not be picking your car apart under the hood. I hope this helps or atleast eases your pain lol

Do you have a CAT? Start there, it will make a big difference. The law is the law, abide by it. California has a huge smog problem, it's better now, but it was really very bad some years ago. The hazy sunshine is the price people pay for all the crap in the air.

maybe consulting a lawyer will cost you more just pay the ticket and call it a day. besides its only an equipment violation. you gotta pay to play.

Dont get me wrong, I want to pay the ticket! but the officer did not gave me any payable amount accept to get it sign off through referee. This where the problems start. The big questions is should I remove all my parts to make it stock or do I have any other options.

Thank you

PAY the ticket lol, cali doesnt mess around when it comes to modded cars... If you fight it, the judge will tell u to get a state ref inspection then he'll drop it.

A lawyer is NOT needed for some silly exhaust ticket. The lawyer would probably either a) laugh in your face or b) laugh behind your back as he racks up his hourly rate.

First thing you should do in Cali is to make a cop friend. You will probably have more opportunities as you get older but when you find one, be good to them. They can sign off fix-it tickets and all you have to do is pay the fine.

If your ticket specifically states you have to go to the state ref, then yes, they will only check your decibel levels. HOWEVER, if the ref is having a bad day, he has the right to ask you to pop your hood. If you refuse, fine, but you can never go back to that shop as long as that guy works there.

IF your exhaust checks out under 95 decibels, make sure you make a copy of the readout from the state ref so you can use it for future encounters. For me, I proactively contacted the state ref in Cali for my last modded car and they told me I needed a ticket in order to be measured on-site.

Now you have the perfect excuse to get tested and have proof.

Btw, if your "not so loud" exhaust goes OVER 95 decibels...better get out the tool set and stock exhaust system.

Lastly, don't be rude at the state ref. They can impound your ride.

God I love being registered in TN. No safety inspection, no bull crap to deal with when you do get pulled over, and the cops usually want to see what I have under the hood and then we talk about cars for a while and they let me go. I went in to register my Evo from VA and the guy behind the counter asked me "That thing got four tires on it boy?" I said yes and he then stated "Keep all of them on the road and have a nice day! That will be $54.50." I was shocked to say the least.

As far as your situation, I would probably think about putting at least most of the stock parts back on if you think it may be "close" to 95 db and take it to the ref. I have no personal knowledge of the legal stuff in Cali and nor do I have any desire to!

UGH, EVERYONE IT IS NOT A PAYABLE GET IT OUT OF UR HAIR TICKET FOR CHRIST SAKE LOL, you aint getting out of it, I WORK AT A SHERIFFS OFFICE, LISTEN TO ME, or kanyonkid, he seems to have the right idea too, your going to have to put a cat on there and atleast the catback section, all your going to go thru is a decibal and smog test. Unless you oknow for sure that your exhaust can pass that test. Then your golden. But do as you see fit, remember your the one who has to pass the test if u wanna drive your pertty evo around

as I thought! a small problem should not involve an attorney.

your profile says you're from maryland... are you sure about that statement since the OP is in california?? vehicle laws are different from state to state.

only reason i say this is because i too received the SAME violation 2 years ago IN CALIFORNIA when i had my subaru with HKS Carbon Ti. I merely paid 178 dollars and poof no going to stock, no ref, nothing on my record =P However, the cop did mark on my ticket "correctable" on the ticket. I just didnt have the time / want to deal with the hassle of going back to stock since i didnt have the stock parts at that time.

And OP, i think you're engine bay is fine, you're not getting emissions checked out so they don't have any business going through your bay. For sound testing i think its just a decibal test.
