New 11' WW Owner: The Long Road

Hey how's it going guys I joined here a couple months before I got my Evo and always wanted to make a progress thread so... here it goes!

To give you guys a little background..

I picked up a 07 Lexus IS 250 a couple years ago and it was my first taste of modding a car. After that.. I became ALOT more hungry lol.

Mods:

HKS Hi-Power Exhaust (catback)
K&N Intake
ASA 17'' Wheels
Blacked out Emblems and Grille
Went from blacked out tails to regular with red vinyl over the amber

----------------------

After I was done having my fun with the Lex, my buddy, who had a 95 GSX, got me into DSM's.. FML lol. So I did a lot of research and learned a lot from him and his car and decided to buy my own. Picked up a '92 Plymouth Laser RS (AWD) that the timing belt had fallen off of and the engine was in questionable condition. We brought it home tore it apart and started a rebuild. After a year I had rebuilt it to OEM standards with ARP studs and goodies along the way. But after 2 years of running into random problems and never driving it I decided it was time to part with it.

-------------------

That's when I decided to make the leap to trade in the Lexus and sell the Plymouth and get one of my dream cars. I got the X in December and I've been happy ever since!

-------------------

My first mod was vinyl. I got the front bumper, headlights, mirrors, door handles, and a couple other parts all done in clear vinyl. Due to past experience with the Lex I knew this had to be my first mod if I wanted it to stay clean on our horrible NJ roads n highways. I also got the roof vinyl'd flat carbon fiber while it was there, looks sexy.

You can check it out on my other thread. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...-guidance.html

--------------------

Now I'm at the point where I'm ready to go faster. I have been in contact with Sam @ IveyTune, over in Linden, and they've been very helpful going back n forth with me as I decide what's best to go with right now.

I plan to get these things installed by them in a couple weeks:

Gauges
Short Shift
Tail Lights (Rally)
Intake
Exhaust (NO downpipe, I figured I'd wait til I go with a bigger turbo? What you guys think?)
High Flow Cat
FMIC Kit

Originally, I was going to go full exhaust but the labor was crazy and I heard the turbo has to come off for it. So I decided to get a FMIC instead and the labor is just as crazy as the DP but I figured it was a better choice anyways.

Thanks a lot for the help in advance I've learned a lot so far just from lurking we'll see what else I can learn now that I'm part of the forum! Be safe!

1. A '11 Evo has should have the ralliart taillights stock.
2. The dp is tough to install (about 5-6 hours without a lift), but it isn't impossible and the turbo doesn't have to come out.. That is if you get an O2 eliminator downpipe. Just a downpipe is easy but doesn't yield many gains.
3. Why would you pick 17's? Those must look SMALL. And stock height?
4. As for a SS, I would get a twm shift knob and bushings.

It was very clean. Especially since it rarely ever saw snow and had NO RUST. If you can believe it lol. The only dirty part was the interior, had all the plastic out and tools everywhere haha.

1. My bad I meant the red/amber lights.
2. Yeah I did some research I just didn't know what went into the install.
3. I honestly forget if they were 17's or 18's but I had Tein S-Tech's on it and it had a pretty solid stance (see picture..)
4. I got the full WORKS kit way ahead of ya.

Can't wait to find out. After I get everything installed I'll have a review for everything.

O2 eliminator dp was the biggest pain in the *** to work with. Granted it does open up air flow alot so I'm not complaining now! I feel it is a must though.

Haha I'm def getting the 08 tails and getting them red vinyl'd.

I've always done my own labor but I feel like leaving it to the shop would be better since I have to get it tuned anyway. Plus if something f***s up it's not my fault lol.

I'm just gonna save the downpipe for when I get a bigger snail.

^ like everyone says, the DP is a pain, but is great, i got mine with ext dump, bigger pain, its bad enough taking everything off and putting a single pipe in...with 2...FML, it was about a 8 hour job, no lift, but i love it...once the WG opens...LOUD is all i can say.

Good job on getting a SS. The stock shifter was crap lol. After I got the TWM set up, night and day man. One of the best mods you can do to the car IMO.
