vinyl wrap/ air bag light

So I am new to the forum but have been reading a lot of posts on mods and decided I wanted to do a few small things to my 2011 O.S So I bought so 3M carbon fiber vinyl, some leds for the dome lights, vinyl wrapped my tail lights, a pair of led fog lights and finally a couple led strips for the head lights. when CF vinyl I decided to wrap the bezels around the gauges, the trim on the vents and my whole center dash. (all around the stereo). The vents and gauges went smoothly enough. When I got to the dash I pried it out and found that it was only attached to on plug. I figured this would make it nice and easy to remove and then replace later and I was right. Unfortunately what I didn't know was that by unplugging that plug and then plugging it back in it set off my check airbag light . Not thinking that my vinyl wrap had anything to do with it I went to the dealer to have it looked at and they told me that it was my fault and my warranty didn't cover it. so I paid $99 to have it reset all because of one stupid plug!!!! seems like crap to me. Needless to say the wife is pissed (she hated the cf vinyl from the beginning), and has banned me from anymore mods. I guess the plasti dip will have to wait.

Secondly, why didn't you post your issue (about the airbag warning light) here?
I'm sure someone here could have helped you with our cluster BEFORE you let the dealer hypnotize you into giving them your money?

Should have asked your wife BEFORE you CF wrapped..
You know > to get her Authorization. Come on now.. you know how this marriage thing works, right?

Lucky for me, my wife loves the CF look.
I even let her feel my roll of CF vinyl before I attempted to bubble wrap the parts.

So you unplugged the airbag light on the center console while wrapping the radio bezel? Did you start the car or have the key in? I can't wrap my head around why the light would go off after unplugging if there was no power during the vinyl wrapping.

I think he meant that our dash cluster is all digital and has only one wiring harness that connect to the ECU, so it made it easy to completely remove from the console.

But, obviously there's some kind of checksum that detects (if) something happened to the cluster (or more likely if the cluster's ODO had been tampered with. Maybe?)

yea its all one harness. the dealer told me that once you disconnect it and reconnect it, it automatically requires an airbag reset. I assume there is a way to reset it without paying the dealer but I honestly didn't thing that disconnecting that harness was the problem had I, I would have posted on here looking for some help.

i did the same thing when adding rca adopter to my head unit its its definitely if you unplug the wire and turn on the car i tried to change the cable, made sure the power was not on, the check air bag did not not show up. the only thing i see that you did wrong was that you told the dealer it was your fualt i just told the dealer that it went off by itself and i have no idea why. he never looked in my trunk for my subs and did not notice the wiring. all they did was plug a computer an hit clear he told me it must have been a loose senser. he stated that it error was just in the memory and neaded to be cleared one thinh he did surprize me with is that he could tell i unpluged the battery. i made the excuse that i was trying to reset the airbag warning by power cicle.
i guess in your position you would not have been able to hide the vinyl wrap?
