Sorry to revive an old thread, but did you ever figure out what the problem was? I have a 2010 GSR with only bolt on mods such as dp, tp, exhaust, intercooler, and Cobb AP. I've had these mods on for at least 6 months now, bought the car brand new, and am noticing only recently at idle, I hear vibrations from under the car. I have almost 13000 miles on the car and have changed the oil every 3000 miles. When I looked under my car, I can see the mid pipe vibrating quite a lot when the idle seems to drop to almost 500 rpm. When that happens, I see the top of my radiator vibrate as well. The hose thing that everyone says to check is on. So yeah, just wondering if anyone found out what was going on with the OP's car. Thanks.

Just a suggestion but sometimes people get an intake with no shield and when the radiator fan kicks on it will cause a rough idle due to fan blade waffles of air hitting the intake

I'm running the stock intake box with a drop in. But anyhow, I found the problem today. On the eat to a shop, the vibration got worse. It sounded like a loose bolt rattling around that was about to come off. When I got the car on the lift, we found that the exhaust hanger that secures the test pipe or cat in place broke off from Tue frame of the car. I've been running the TWM stiff hanger rubber thingy and I guess the stress from the crappy roads here and sometimes scraping the mid pipe led to the hanger's demise. We just removed the whole thing for now, as the exhaust is on super tight, where it can handle without the hanger. I don't think theres a way to replace the part that attaches to the car. The guys said I'd have to weld it back on, but if anything, it'll probably just break off again. But problem solved for now lol.

Thats good to hear but I would get it welded back on next time something brakes off it might be your exhaust instead of a hanger if you dont have extra support.

Exactly the same happened to me. Only difference is that the vibration managed to destroy the heat-shield on the cat before I figured it out.

Oh yeah, I definitely plan to get it back on ASAP. Especially with the way the roads are here, I dont need extra stress on any part of the exhaust. I just wish there was a better way than to just weld the hanger back on. The hanger that separated from the car is hollow! No surprise as to why it easily broke. Oh well, gotta wait another week before I can take it to my other friend who can weld it for me. Thanks for the responses.

Hey guys,

So its been a while since I posted this and got about the issue. Since i posted this, I've put 6,000 miles on the car, installed a cobb tune, got a different heat shield, replaced some parts etc....after all of this, I still have a rough idle. I can't say that I have found a solution and that I have found out what is doing it, but I can say that I have diagnosed everything I can with the cobb and concluded it is not damaging the engine. I have no knock (as i was fearing) I have good motor mounts (stock) and all parts are secure on the car (exhaust issue some of you were mentioning). I am still as baffled as when I started but I have talked to many x owners and they say the same thing happens to them. Im not in any way saying this is how x's run or this is normal, but I'm saying that it is a common occurrence and no one seems to know what causes it...at this point though, i have found that the heat shield really makes the difference. I have a few different friends with generally the same mods as I do and we all have different intake shields. I have an ams small heat shield, my one buddy has full box intake, and my last friend has a ets shield that came with the ets piping for his intercooler. Of the three of us, my buddy with the full box has the best results, leading me to believe that its the fans that are whats causing the issue.

Can you do a video of it? I've been in many evo x's, never witnessed this occurring unless the pressure regulator hose was off.

I am not sure but could it be the heat entering the aftermarket air intake?

Yes, this is what I have concluded: once we switch our x's to short ram air intakes (cold airs seem to work fine) then we see these problems, unless they are box intakes.
