Turbo lag evo X vs evo VIII
Turbo lag evo X vs evo VIII
I recently got 2008 evo gsr and I had before evo VIII and it seems that the turbo lag is more prominent in evo x then it was in evo VIII or IX. Is this a known fact?
From the factory the car is indeed heavier so throw on AC on a hot day and it will feel spongier than the previous models initially. Luckily just swapping in more aggressive MIVEC maps jumps spool a good 300+ RPM's and low end has a bunch more torque. Tune the car well even with stock parts and you can reach 400+ crank HP as STM has proven.
It's 100% because the 10 is heavier. I noticed this immediately when I got my 10 and just some weight reduction and it was dramatically different. Try this... Gut your trunk then put a light weight battery back there and you'll be amazed at the difference.
I do think the lag is going down in the evo line in the us like this:
Biggest is the VIII then a IX and the least lag is for the X. That is my experience, I think it a lot has to do with a mivec set up. Also that is why people feel much slower the X compare to the IX. The X doesn't really give you the turbo kick as a IX does.

Even though the X spools sooner, it's extra weight negates any perceived gain. Off boost it's not as responsive as a lighter IX. Even though the 4B11T has better low end than the 4G63T.
What would be interesting is to have a comparison of dual MIVEC on the CT9A. It produces much more low end and I wonder what that would feel like on a 9.
When the X came out I was instantly wondering about 4B11T swaps just for curiosity. Obviously it's a minor gain for a lot of work so no one is doing that. There's much easier ways to get 20ft/lbs down low with a 4G63T.

It is a bit less responsive as a car yes it is. But a turbo lag is still smaller.
I am wondering how the new 2011 X feels. Since it. Is a X
and people like to compare the older evos to the first year, crappy tuned X's even though r years passed by, that is as long as almost the 8 production.... LOL
My evo 8 was way laggier than my evo 10. My evo 8 felt like a peaky car and made power up top whereas the evo 10 gets that midrange grunt almost immediately. I had a TME 6.5 on my evo 8 it did not have that immediate power delivery my 10 has.
I had stock evo VIII with cat back exhaust only. Now I have 2008 Evo with AGP cold air intake, upper intercooler pipe, turboXS downpipe and high flow cat , perrin catback. It has been tuned to 310 wheel hp with mode 23 tune. I bought it like this, so is it possible that this tune and mods can affect the turbo lag, in other words to increase the turbo lag?
The biggest factor to more perceived lag is that the engine revs slower with the stock map cause of the electronic throttle mapping, for me it was down right annoying
Just get a tune and all will be well
