awc pump shot- dealer wont cover it

well my awc pump is shot and the dealer refuses to cover it. They said it was covered, called me back two hrs later and said it wasnt covered but they would pay for half. They said its not covered under the extended warranty. Car has 45k on it. I called mits headquarters and no help from them either. Its total bs, the AWC pump is a known issue with these cars and yet they still refuse to do anything.

I am so heated about this whole situation it isnt even funny. Sry for the vent.

Update: The dealer called the service red back and were able to get him to cover the entire thing. Awesome customer service on their part.

Ya that's strange. Mine went out at 37k and it was covered in my extended warranty. I got the 7yr/70000 mile deal. Thankfully they covered it, they said it was around $2k, iirc. Had to pay a $100 deductible. Mitsu service= week sauce. Try another dealer?

there is a service campaign out for the awc reflash. Colder temps cause the fluid to become too thick for the pump to move and it eventually burns up. Affected cars are 08-10 evo produced before 8/28/09. I asked mits when my car was made, what did she say? april of 08. There is also a list of states in which the cars were sold that it affects, PA being one of the states effected. Ok, SO why isnt this covered i asked? well apparently its vin specific, which makes no sense because its all the same part. The lady at mits was no help and we were just going in circles so i gave up. I need to call back and talk to someone higher up.

The dealer the car is at now says its only covered for the 3 yr, 36k, but its not covered under my extended powertrain warranty which also makes no sense what so ever. But since my car is still under the 3 year, but over 36k, they will cover half.

They're trying to milk you for service dollars. If they'll cover half then they'll cover the whole thing just keep fighting.

Well the service manager called me this morning and wants to keep my car for a few more days. He said hes going to talk to the district manager again who gives the go ahead with repairs and try to get them to cover the entire thing. The service manager is really trying to help me out on this one. I just hope he can get it to go through.

Not to sound like an a**hole, but you're car is technically out of the warranty period. The fact that they agreed to pay half and are fighting to get the district manager to potentially cover the whole thing - you should be very appreciative of that. Legally they could stick you with the entire bill regardless if the part is known to have issues, unless they have made a statement that they are extending the warranty on that part for all owners???

5-year/60,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty

Doesn't this cover the AWD system?

I would say this falls under powertrain warranty. Don't let them bull**** you, it should be covered.

Who said i wasn't appreciative? i am beyond grateful for what the service manager is doing for me. regardless if it ends up being covered or not.

I have the extended warranty so i dont see how thats out of the warranty period?

Im just confused as to why something that would be covered under the normal warranty isn't covered under the extended warranty. I didn't buy the extended warranty for Sh*ts and giggles.

The tone you took in the first post (especially the last sentence) and the post you made after talking to customer service is what leads me to believe you're not appreciative of the situation. Like I said, I'm not trying to be the bad guy - but sometimes you don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

On your extended warranty, what company is it through? It will say so on the extended warranty paperwork you signed when you bought the car. Also, what does it say is covered?

Understandable. I was a bit flustered by the whole situation at the time.

Not sure who the extended warranty is through. I called the dealer where i bought my car and explained the situation. I asked them if this was something that would be covered under the warranty and they said they would get back to me. They never did. I work all weekend so i haven't had any time to call them back. Im hoping Monday we can get everything squared away.

Go through all the paperwork you signed when you bought the car. In there should be something you would have signed about the extended warranty and it should have all the details. It's most likely a 3rd party company - so neither the dealer nor Mitsu is likely going to really know what is/isn't covered by the extended warranty. You'll have to find your paperwork, read through what is covered and then possibly call them to see if it is covered.
