GSR to MR upgrade, is it worth it?
I second this completely... I am completey fed up with the MR and this SST transmission. Mine seems to shift at completely the wrong times, bog down and is completely boring. Not to mention I am getting about 12-14MPG average (I am not driving it hard) and the dealership has absolutely no clue why. They just shrug their shoulders.
I'm trading for either a GSR, Mustang GT 5.0, or STI... perhaps even the WRX. I never goto the track (this MR suspension is completely wasted on me... lol)

the only reason why i bought the MR was the options i wanted didn't come in the gsr. i wanted a sunroof and full leather. the other stuff was an option for the gsr but those two weren't.
to get the sst trans to feel as much like i wanted i have to be in Super sport/manual i typicaly shift down with the paddle and up with the stick.. If i was planning on trying to make the evo a monster .. id say go with the gsr manual the trans will get the power to the ground. the auto is a bit of a hog and yes it does shift at funny times on occation. mine's brand new and has even a couple times felt like it's slipping. for the first check up / oil change i'll be asking them about that.

The Evo was the only reason why I learned how to drive a stick...I'm not going back baby!!!! Manual or Bust!!! I'll get an auto for when I drive in the city.
if you track a car with FIA rules about displacement/hp/torque then yes it makes sense to have paddles, cause you will know what hp you have to be at. Personally for me i felt that since i was going to heavily modify the car the hp would change and i wanted one less variable out of the equation. The manual would give me more peace of mind as virtually any shop can handle a 5 spd transmission fix if i blew it. If you brake the SST, how many people can service that?

I also hear that a lot, that F1 cars and racing is going towards that, again, that is not an argument, first of all, who cares?
Using the clutch yourself is different then a computer controlling it, no matter what, it is its own feeling and experience, and it gives a closer connection between the car and the driver, there are no excuses to get either the SST or the manual, PERIOD, the only reason would be that you dont want to operate a clutch pedal yourself, and that is understandable, but dont debate with bull**** excuses.
Although yes, there is no doubt the SST with twin clutches will shift faster then a conventional manual, but thats not a reason to disown a stick shift.
I am also not hating on Automatic transmissions, I owned 2 autos before I had my first stick and one was an TC-SST trans (And I know the SST is not considered an a normal automatic, its a twin clutch blah blah blah)

Most tests between the MR and GSR that have been done have showed that the MR stock out performs the GSR stock in the quarter and around a track. Just because i have the Evo with a SST doesnt mean i cant drive stick... I bought the MR based on better performance that the STI i was going to get.

A close connection to my car is when it does what I want it to do as quickly as possible. How is a manual clutch faster than a computer operated dual clutch?
If you're buying an MR X just for it's interior, I'd consider it a waste of paperwork, time, and a lame excuse. You can easily buy the same components of either a SSS X or MR X. Either in this site or in plenty of other places you can buy the components which you deem missing to complete you Evo X. In turn, this will end up saving you all future money lost in trade-in and that which you will pay extra on payments.
I had an 08 GSR and traded for a 2010 MR-T. This discussion is focused on the transmission differences in the shifting manual v SST. SST and is a big advantage at the limit, concentrating on your apex and scanning the road and everything else you have to do at speed while simultaneously getting the best shift point is nice, trust me. But almost as good is when your at 124 in 5th in Sport mode and 6th kicks in and takes you to 145 like now. I haven't had it on the track yet, but it is nice to know that I can hammer it out there too.
Also, what about the added suspension, BBS wheels, 2 piece rotors, sun roof and leather race seats. The cloth in the GSR is super crappola, it was one of my main problems with it, and don't get me wrong I loved my GSR.
You really can't go wrong either way. I do miss manually shifting sometimes, I won't lie, but I was willing to trade that for what I got in the MR-T. I can see both viewpoints though.

UUHHHHH Some people are still not getting it,
I never said a Manual trans is faster then the SST, theres no doubt that the SST is faster, but again, not a reason to get an MR, THE ONLY REASON IS THAT YOU DONT WANT A STICK, which is Fine! The SST is a great trans to have in place of a manual
But for me, Id rather drive a manual trans slower and have more fun and a better experience then to just basically turn a wheel and let the car do the work for you

BILSTEINŽ Struts with Eibach Springs
2-piece Front Brake Rotors with Alloy Hats
RECAROŽ Heated Leather Front Bucket Seats
18-inch BBS forged alloy wheels
Xenon HID Headlamps
40GB HDD Navi with Music Server
6-sp TC-SST with Magnesium Paddle Shifters
FAST-Key
710W Rockford Fosgate Audio
Interior Sport Package
Rear Spoiler
Interior Noise Reduction Package
Tinted Windows

Whether or not those things are worth the 3-4k difference I'd be paying after trade is debatable but I'm inclined to think it is.
Suck it. Its been seven yrs since id driven in snow and its not like i curbed the BBSs to bad you cant tell till i show you. So what you got about another 4 mos or so?
Well its not just the interior, its all of the options that you could possibly get on an MR with the exception of the aero kit. My base GSR has no options. Here's the complete list:

But yeah... Go get that MR bro, it sounds like you're heart was always set on it.
In bold means that you've already made a desicion ages ago, and never really cared about the "transition" of a GSR to an MR. What you've probably always fathomed was the MR, or if not you would've made a trade-in for a SSS GSR X with the aero kit, and navi. As for the BBS rims... Ehhh... I'd rather the GSR rims,RPF-1s rotas, or other, but that's my opinion. I have TE37 SLs by the way, and they're quite the awsomeness...!

But back to the GSR to MR upgrade. What ever the choice you make you're still getting a great car. I personally wouldnt trade my car because I put too much money into the one I have and I don't want to pay for my Evo all over again..mine's is almost paid for. Time for bigger upgrades.
