GSR to MR upgrade, is it worth it?

I've been looking at a used 2010 MR that I'm interested in potentially trading my 2010 Base GSR in for. The MR is fully loaded with tinted windows, mudflaps, and upgraded charge piping. The MR also has almost exactly the same mileage (14k) as my GSR as well. The price seems very good too, and the vehicle history shows one owner no accidents or reports of other issues. If I were to get blue book value for my trade I would only be picking up a difference of about 3-4k in payments. My question is this a good deal? Are there any MR owners out there who upgraded from a GSR? If so what are your thoughts on the GSR vs the MR. Opinions welcome.

the only reason to upgrade would be because you wanted to use the SST transmission instead of the 5speed...

I have recently traded from a '10 GSR to an '11 MR.

For the reason that tephra states. The SST, to be honest, is a lovely gearbox.

Drives slightly better at higher speeds, plus all the bolt on's from the GSR went on the MR.

Why would you want to do that?
I went from a tuned ralliart with the SST transmission to a 2011 GSR and i can tell you, the SST is a great, fast transmission, but the 5 speed is so much fun to drive.

I never enjoyed driving the SST as much as I have the 5 speed, plus id rather shift my own gears then flap some paddles

I used to be one of those SST supporters that argued for it saying it was amazing and it shifted faster then a person could, but who cares, unless your lazy and tired of driving a stick, dont due it, the 5 speed is so much more fun, even if it wont shift as fast as the SST

You will loose some money but save time in shifting. I love both of my X MRT's, especially whenever I hit bumper to bumper traffic.
GL whatever u do.

I think it would be worth it if you are wanting to "upgrade" the 5 speed to the SST. Otherwise, it seems like it would be a waste. Is switching from the 5 speed to the SST worth the extra 3-4 thousand (that you say the trade would cost you) dollars ?

Its not an upgrade, just a different transmission. Remember why you bought the gsr to begin with.

I never really thought of the GSR as the "base" model. I always thought the RS was. Yeah, yeah we don't have RS's here...

That year there is a GSR base and a GSR SSS.

Lol, yeah I know. I got the SSS too because the "base" model looked like a base model.

Yea I wouldn't have bought my GSR without the SSS package.

i would say, really drive that MR a few times, give it a real going over, as you'll read on here, the SST isn't for everyone.

I have been driving stick transmissions for 25 years, i was skeptical about the MR/SST... until i drove one.
It has made me a real believer in the transmission/technology and I think overall
most MR owners really enjoy it!

i drive my MR in manual 100% of the time, it's alot of fun !

SST has inherent maintenance issues (replace entire unit) for about 7k? as well as the torque has to be limited to make sure the clutch packs dont let go. Cooling modifications are required to keep the SST from overheating on the track. Does it shift fast? absolutely, would it shift fast enough to beat a GSR who has more mods given the extra cost of the MR? absolutely not.

Just boils down to what you want to do with it, keeping it 400awhp is alright i suppose for the MR, but if you plan on pumping out decent numbers, well its going to be deadly hard on the MR compared to the GSR.

I'd say if you want the extra options then go ahead. If your car is a daily driver that you won't be modding very much then that's what I'd want to have.
