I'm getting a weird right rear banging sound on my 2011 evo x? It reminds me of when a large rock get stuck in your tread and thrown up into the fender well. I've looked underneath and don't see anything loose. It does it if I'm coasting in neutral or in gear so I don't think it's drivetrain..plus I've been pretty easy on it.. only 3500 miles. I've got an aftermarket exhaust and rear sway bar. I was under the car last night and can't find anything loose. Anybody have any ideas?

 

I've heard that the rear sway bar can break the endlinks. I don't know if that would cause this noise though..

 

^ +1 did you start to notice it after the rear sway bar install?

 

This is going to sound stupid, but I'm not really sure what a broken end link is going to look like. I craweled underneath and pushed/pulled on everything and it seems okay. So, am I looking for something actually snapped or warped?

I installed it right after I bought the car... 30 miles on it. Now that the sound is happening everytime I drive the car I know I've heard it for awhile,, it was just very rare and I always thought it was a rock flying into the fender well. I used to hear it once every 4-6 weeks if that,, now it's all the time.

 

alright, went back and took a closer look at the sway bar.. the bolt on the right side was a little loose...even though I cranked it down good to begin with... is this the same problem others were having? I wonder if it has something to do with this bolt.. anyway, thanks for the replies. I just tightened it up, if it breaks loose again I will put loctite on it.

 

Go to the brakes/suspension forum and search for "sway". There's two threads of stuff breaking. One is a sway bar bracket I think but the second one is the endlinks. Just search in the suspension..
