License Plate question
License Plate question
So... i got pulled over once again in NJ today for my front plate. My question is... If i were to zip tip the plate to the mesh on the right side of the front of the car so that it may cover 2 or 3 inches of the intercooler will i be alright or will i be losing power because of the air flow?... I can push the plate into the mesh on the right side about 2 inches. It does not look bad but there is no way in hell i am goin to drill a hole in my bumper....
Thanks. Nick

I could not quantify a loss, but its never a good idea to block airflow. Maybe at stock levels you can get away with it, either way you do lose some efficiency.
I know you said you didn't want to drill the bumper, but after my ticket I decided I had to do something.
I ended up with this:

I got it from here:

Its two small holes underneath.
I myself did not want to block the intercooler, that was just me.

The quantity of air flowing to your intake will only change in mass due to a change in temp. You are not blocking enough of the front of the intercooler to really matter unless it is wildly hot outside, even then, the faster you go the more air flow. But, the post above for the kit to move the plate is a better option.
It may not really hurt the performance but I would personally prefer to have the whole area in front of the intercooler free of obstructions. I know in california you have to have the LP properly secured to the front. I took mine off but now I have to look at the 3 ugly holes in my front bumper.

That sucks, quick question though... You got pulled over by a cop for having the license plate in the stock location? (left side of center). That seems a bit extreme considering its the stock location and for the car to be sold in the US it would have had to pass several safety inspections...
There's a tape he could get so he wouldn't have to drill when I get home I'll link it I think it works pretty and it's waterproof.
I found the link in my phones bookmarks here's the link http://www.autogeek.net/3m-auto-tape.html I bought some and have to say it's pretty good.

People get so bent over the silliest things. If its the law in your state, put the license plate on where it belongs. That bracket actually looks pretty good. Whats the difference between holes in your bumper for a license plate frame and holes in the rear body panel for one? In the grand scheme of things does it really matter?
I put mine in my dash for now until I get caught for it. They're crazy if they think I'm going to ruin my bumper. My plan is to zip tie it (like you) and wait until they give me crap for it again. So far cops don't seem to care in my area. Thank God I live in a really small town...
