i love my evo. but i can see these cars are not made for people who dont like much hastle. even unmodified the clutchs are crap the diff pins come undone now the timing chains. lol
hope ams uses stronger chains. thats my next upgrade cant wate.

Your name explains the ignorance you carry. Just because 5 people out of THOUSANDS express issues with their car doesn't mean all Evo's will have this problem. My car was modified at 2k miles, its now hitting 20k with no problems (knock on wood) putting 340+whp and 360trq.

This is a forum, where people come and post what problems they have - people dont come in here and talk about how good their cars are running until something happens.

I have 60k miles and no problem yet. Talked to the Evo tech @ my dealership (who is a really good guy) while getting a cv boot replaced (under warranty) and they haven't seen the issue yet, in either Evos or base lancers. My guess is that there have been a few bad chains coming off the line and we are hearing about them. Maybe we should start an "I don't have chain stretch" thread.

was at dealership last week about warranty...think its 3yrs 36,000 miles..if thats the case your still under...

I had 9K miles when the warning came on for the center display for timing chain. Took it to dealer and after a few questions to see if I have tracked it or constantly red-lined the engine, fixed it under warranty. I think it took them about 2 days.

Pretty sure its going to happen again. Just worried that it'll happen after the warranty expires.

No mods, except for a WORKS drop in filter.

For the record, but sadly probably not for the last time, EvoX powertrain warranty is 60k miles. 3/36 is the bumper to bumper warranty. RTFM
Timing chain is part of the engine, and therefore part of the powertrain.

mitsu's have there's problems just like STI's, Mazda 3 Speed, RX7, 350z, etc. etc. , no high power, high performance car, r going to be as friendly and cheap repairs as my daily driven 1996 camry!, just won't!

Just because peoples cars are running fine doesn't mean the chain hasn't stretched a little. The problem is when the tensioner gets maxed out then you'll have problems. I'm not saying every car's going to have chain stretch but i think it'll start to happen more often. I could see the chain stretching faster when people leave the car in gear and park without the parking brake. That would put a good amount of stress on it.

Mitsubishi has actually said themselves to avoid high rpms because it will stretch the chain. Surprised theyre covering it under warranty when they tell you it will stretch with high rpms.
