About to pull the trigger on a 2008 Evo. need some advice though.

Any input would be nice. The first link is for a 2008 Evo GSR for $26,988 with 20,412 miles on it. The second link is for a 2008 Evo MR for $27,800 with ~30k miles on it. The MR looks clean by the looks of the carfax.

Are these good deals? would you pull the trigger on them? If posting links is prohibited, please delete. Thanks again everyone!

i just clicked the 1st link.....don't get it. the 2nd one can't be any worse so if you were only getting one of the 2 get the 2nd one.

looked at the 2nd one, id' go for it. i'd find some stock mirrors but other wise looks pretty decent, its worth it just for the headlights.

both look street driven but looking at both of those links makes wonder why people do some things to car. the first one is hideous with all that vinyl, red badging, de-winged with ugly wheels. it does come with an exhaust and the aem airbox. the second one is much cleaner but WTF is with those mirrors? if you can live with the sst, get the MR. if you can get the GSR for like $23-24k under the premise of needing the cash to clean it up, then get that.

That GSR is horrible. And honestly it's best to buy these cars that don't have aftermarket performance stuff, like that gsr has the intake, who knows what else the person did, like no tune with the intake, that wouldn't be good.

With the MR buy stock mirrors and it'll be good

the GSR is way over priced (I bought mine at 14k miles in June '09 for $25k from a used car dealer). sure, it is ugly, but that is easily fixable. if you could get the price down to the sub$24k range, that car would be a deal (note it has the sweet AL shift knob and ebrake handle!! score!! :P)

MR price is fair borderline good... plus you are getting the "top o the line" model. obviously this choice depends greatly on where you sit in the SST vs 5sp debate.

Really what you should do is buy the MR and trade me for my GSR. (I'm semi-serious here!))

I disagree greatly. No cheaper way to start going fast than buying a car that has some parts on it already, especially the stuff you cannot screw up: fmic, exhaust, intake, etc.

contrary to popular belief, driving around on an intake alone untuned will not kill these cars. I bought my GSR used and it had a full turboback, ic pipes, and intake and of course... no tune! it made the previous owners 14k miles and the 1200 mile trip home just fine.

there is a big difference between neglected(modded stupidly) and abused(thrashed on). you want the former, not the latter.

The links don't seem to work for me, but I will honestly tell you that the GSR is way overpriced for the mileage. With 30k miles on it I wouldn't pay more than 25k and thats assuming the car is in pristine condition. In addition I'm not a fan of buying a vehicle that has been modded. Yes its nice that someone else has done work that I plan to do, however, you have absolutely no idea the quality of the work done or what problems you may be inheriting.

The asking prices seem normal to me; negotiate at will. I'd personally just pass on both and wait for one either stock or tastefully modded.

You should decide on 5spd or SST first then go from there.

I wouldn't buy any used car that's been modded with more then one or two things. Ur looking for trouble by doing so. 50% chance it has been ragged on and beat down. If you wanna take a 50% chance on 27k be my guest.

If you find one that just has a different exhaust or intake then ur probably safe in my opinion.

It's like there's two hot chicks. One is a hooker outfit and one is dressed sophisticated (both hot don't forget). The hooker will be cheap and easy.... but u might end up with herpes! Or you can put in the extra work with the sophisticated one and get laid without having to worry bout it. And sometimes the sophisticated ones have on like red lipstick or a short skirt... that's still ok.

I would not pay that much for used. You need to deal a little bit. Those cars probably aren't going anywhere anytime soon if you don't jump on them immediately.

I agree with derekste. Mods aren't necessarily bad. Just get a good shop to look at whatever you buy first if you go the used route.

Neither cars aren't that bad but you definitely need to decide whether you want the 5-speed, GSR, or the SST, MR..

also... get the VIN, call Mitsu, and get the service history/warranty coverage info. should paint a pretty clear picture.
