My Evo X stalls.

My X today died and had it towed in to dealer and they said the intake was not sucking enough air. I have a AEM short ram intake on it. well it cooled down and it started up again and I drove off. Well on the way home it died again and once again had it towed back to dealer, but this time I put my stock intake in the back seat for them to re-install to see if the AEM is really the problem. Anyone experience this issue or any think similar?

i dont see how the car dying would be due to your aem intake. the stock intake is much more restricted than your aem one. make sure when you installed it that some of the piping isn't cracked, the filter is clean, and the nothing is clamped wrong causing bad circulation

not nearly enough info man.. under what conditions is it dying and what happens after... are you saying it's stalling.... Is the check engine light turning on, have you pulled the codes if it is.

Yes it could easily be related to the intake, If anything is loose behind the maf it could be sucking in enough un-metered air to stall at idle, maf could also have been damaged during the install.

Yeah I agree not enough info. Im not as well versed in the ways of EVO as an owner should be I guess, but got it back from dealer and they said it was low on fuel.....I call Bull**** seeing how it was 1/4 tank when it died the first time. Well I got it back filled the tank and it runs fine. As far as the intake goes that was just an opinion of one of the technicians. So for now its fine. Thanks though for all the insight.

Well after picking it up friday and driving it for an evening and some on Saturday....it breaks down again and with a full tank of gas so no low on fuel bull ****. It dies when rpm's are winding down like when Im coming to a stop. Let it sit for a few minutes and starts right up and dies again at next stop. I really am at a loss here and its only got 24K on it and its at the dealer in louisville now, so we'll see what they have to say. I move to GA in 5 days so talk about bad timing.

low fuel
I'm amazed at how many crappy dealerships are out there. Mine is in right now getting t-case replaced, and I brought a turbo back exhaust and wideband and they put it on no charge

My car stalled while I was driving 2 days ago. The temperature here in PA has been SUPER hot, so I was thinking it had something to do with the heat. It happened 3 times. Turns out my K&N air filter had popped off due to over tightening.

Thankfully was an easy fix. Check for air leaks

It's probably more likely that there's TOO MUCH air coming in. I'd verify that the AEM was installed properly rather than put the stock intake back on. Something could have hit the AEM and knocked it around, causing a bad connection somewhere.

No check engine light when the car dies?

Just the standard lights when a car dies and the ignition is on. Oil, battery etc.... but no engine light only . Im baffled. The dealership is baffled and have a case number open on it with Mitsu, so hopefully something comes out of it soon. Thanks again for all the insight.

anymore, mitsu is just gonna tell you to screw off. Just put the stock intake back on, reset ECU, see if that fixes it. That intake gains you nothing anyways.

Well got the Evo back last Thursday and the Culprit was a Fuel pump......yeah I know what your thinking...why couldnt they catch that the first time? I told them to drive it for an hour and it will die....they did just that and checked the fuel pressure and nothing. Runs great now even after an hour...lol.

Glad to see you found the problem. As I'm a noob to Evo's, are they anything like the new Mustangs where if you put an aftermarket intake on, do you have to tune the car for it?
