2008 to 2010 Gauge Cluster Swap

I've seen little info about this throughout all the evo and lancer forums. i read on the lancer forums a couple of minuites ago about a guy who is trying to swap to the 2010+ color gauges. He said he went to mistsu and was told that the new Dash's are a direct swap, and matter fact all the 08+ lancer clusters are direct swaps, just the issue with the reading between the lancer and evo would be the obvious problems. but in theory they will all mount up and plug up correctly. and that the milage is not stored in the cluster itserlf and would have no affect on you swapping clusters.

has anyone talked to mitsu about this before? if this is the case i'm going to start my hunt for a new dash.

of all the threads that i have read re the matter, they all shared one common denominator and that it is a pain in the butt because of all the electronics that is involved. i believe they will all plug in but play is a totally different subject.

this is the first time i have read that its plug and play.

AFAIK, no one has tried plugging in a 2010 in a 2008 with no reprogramming at all. The dealer will NOT sell you one unless its programmed for your KM's/car, so the only way we can test to see if it is plug and play is by getting a used one from an auto wrecker (hard to find them, trust me!), or borrowing a friends.

Atleast, this is how I understand it to be. It's been on my list of things to get for a while now.

Russell from MitsubishiParts.net might know if you repost in his vendor forum.

There was a thread a little while back where someone had done the swap and asked the his/her state DOT, and they just stated that as long as he recorded the current mileage and the mileage of the new cluster and just kept track of it then he would be fine.

I know a 2008 with 2500 miles on it would be sweet huh . I prefer to just get it done so there is less hassle with insurance, smog or if I'm forced to sell.

I just got my 2010 cluster back and had the mileage moved from my 2008 cluster at a local place in the SF bay area that does cluster repair. Cost was $100 so I figured I would add a another cheaper option for you guys. http://www.sotelectronics.com/

So with the cost of the cluster and the transfer of the mileage data, what is the total cost to have a different colored screen?

i have to admit that looks really good. the 8-bit matrix display is as bad at displaying info as the 458 italia's gps/speedo. but...ugh...so expensive...
