This is exactly the same boat I am in. I too am looking into an Evo X but mountain biking is such a huge part of my life that I too need a good way of transporting my other beast (Banshee Rune). I would like to see some pictures if there are any out there of an Evo X with the roof mount!

Have you considered the Ralliart Sportback?

I can fit my Stumpjumper in the back seat of my IX with ease. It's definitely not as convenient as having a rack but it gets the job done. My bike is a medium sized frame, the only way I can see you having a problem getting your bike in the X, is if you're a giant and have a large or XL frame.

Those that have used trunk mounts, do you have the SSS wing or the small one?... so far most of them i have found thru Thule and Yakima say not to use if you have the tall wing. I currently remove my front wheel and slides right in.

Or you could definitely go with the route of taking out the front wheel. It slides right in after that :P Actually, I got it to fit in the back with BOTH tires on. It took some...muscle. LOL

Not a good idea. It barely fits back there (even with the front tire off), and you have to worry about the front sprocket or pedals ripping up the seats, or scratching up the plastics...

I'm looking to get a roof rack myself.

If you dont have your wing on, a Saris Bones rack should work. I work at a bike shop lol.

I don't have a Evo X, but I've been able to fit three bikes into my 8.

Granted I did have to take both wheels off all three bikes, it's all I could do. Currently saving up/looking for a deal on a roof rack.

Don't waste your time with the temporary trunk racks. Your bike will fall off (especially if you're in an Evo). The rack/hitch option is better, but obviously your trunk access will be limited. My vote goes with the roof rack. If you're worried about your bike being really secure up top, get the Thule Side Arm. I used to mash through the mountains in my Honda Accord with my Santa Cruz V-10 on top with no issue. When I do get roof racks for my IX, that's the combo I'm going to go with. Plus I think it's easier to account for having bikes on your roof than behind you.

But if you do go with a hitch mount, go for the Thule Side Arm style (esp if you are carrying a MTB). In my opinion, no other design comes close to topping that one.

Roof rack will really kill your gas mileage, but hey you're buying an Evo, they're not really known or their gas mileage. But it's the other reasons that we buy them, right?
