Carrying a bicycle

I am considering purchaseing a EVO X and one of my requirement is that I can take my mountain bike with me. I won't use a roof rack, so my options are either folding down back seats or a trailer hitch mounted bike rack. So for those of you that ride, how do you carry your bicycle?

U can't fold seats down. Trunk space is very minimal- your only options are roof rack or getting a trailer mount. Roof rack is probably your best bet

Second on the roof rack.

My folks have a Thule bike trailer on their A3. It is nice, but a little clunky and definitely a pain when maneuvering city driving and tight parking lots because you can't see it at all.

Yep, only options are roof rack or getting a tow hitch installed.

U might be able to put the bike behind the front seats If u take the front wheel off but that's not a good solution

This. There is no room for for a bike in the car. Maybe if you get one of those folding bikes..

I would get a roof rack. They look pretty good..

I have had a roof rack on a couple of previous cars. My problem with them is they cut down the gas mileage and they make a lot of noise even with a wid deflector. The problem with the strap to the trunk style is they scratch up the car and have to be removed anytime you want to get into the trunk. I could avoid the scratching by putting clear bra under the mounting points, but that doesn't help with the access to the trunk. Sounds like the only option is the trailer mount style. That wouldn't be so bad as then I could also tow a little trailer back and forth to the track. Does any one have any experience with trailer hitches for these cars?

I don't think pulling a trailer with an Evo is a good idea, especailly if you get an MR which it sounds like you would. And I'm pretty sure you would have to get a hitch custom made..

you can remove the rear seats, lay down some small carpet to keep dirt off your floor, take both wheels off the bike, and slide it in.

I have two different bikes I use: one is a Trek/Gary Fisher Kaitai with 29" wheels, and the other is an older Trek 4300 MTB with 26" wheels. Both of them have quick release hubs on the front and rear wheels.

Either bike will fit inside the car, but the only way to do it is to remove both wheels, throw them in the trunk, and put the frame in the backseat. Actually when I take the Kaitai, only one of the 29" rear wheels will fit in the trunk, and the other goes in the back seat with the frame.

It's not terribly convenient, but it works.

I used to be able to fit my road bike in the back seat of my EVO X.. I'd just have to take the front wheel off and put it in separately.

I've done a lot of looking around on this topic. I wouldn't mind a roof rack however the way that most of them mount they eventually ruin your door seals. The best option I've found so far is this:

Custom hitch with a receiver that is hidden by the license plate when not in use. Seems pretty cheap, just labor/fabrication intensive.
