Big dileema, lookin for evo drivers with exp
whats goin on everyone....
Ok here's the situation im dealing with. Im 22 and Im scheduled to go on a deployment at the end of the year for 6/7 months. I currently have a 04 srt-4 and i like it but im looking to get a new car with alittle more room when i get back and im thinking of getting an evo. The reason i chose the evo over my other maybe car (g37 coupe/or 370z) was because it had a backseat and it was alittle more roomier. I like the look, and I like the fact of having a sedan that i could also take to a track day. I've also done alittle bit of reading and from what ive seen so far it doesnt take much to make the evo a fast car.
SN:My girl also has a 05 altima. And i was thinking of getting an evo x.
my question is do u think the evo is a car i can have as a daily driver and still take to the track?
And is this a car i can get and 10+ years from now if i still have it i wont feel like a goofball ?
How is the evo as a daily driver?
Is it a reliable car?
BTW im already a member of a g37/370z forum and asked them the same question. Just wanted to talk to ppl who drive these cars. thanks to any and all advice you can provide.

Yes. Plenty of guys DD and track their Evos, as even in stock form, it's plenty capable while still having room for more than just two. The trunk on the Xs is a little small, but it's usually enough for most people's needs. Even if you mod your car a bit for track use, it's still easy to DD.
I have a 2006 Evo IX SE, which is now a five year-old car (halfway to ten years), and I don't feel like a goofball at all, even with the big wing. I'd imagine that the newer Evos, given their more "mature" exterior, should be fine in the future (assuming that design trends don't shift significantly).
My Evo has been daily driven since I bought it. My commute has almost always been fairly short (less than ten miles), but I do have meetings every so often that are 20+ miles, and it's not bad at all. I visit my family once every month or two, which is 100+ miles each way, and I prefer driving it over my girlfriend's Corolla even for those kinds of trips. It's been very reliable with zero issues, and I don't imagine anything happening anytime soon.

Where are you deploying to? What branch? Please tell me you have all your ducks in a row? Even then an Evo 10 isn't a great car to have while 1) you're not around to drive it for a year, and 2) Only making $20-30k.
I don't understand why you kids in the service have to have cars like these when you're in between deployments. My brother is in the Army, on his 3rd deployment, and does this crap (currently driving a new Charger SRT8) and it's just a big waste of money. He's 27, been in for a 8 years, and keeps buying cars, wasting money on them, can't afford to keep them maintained, and then my parents end up paying for it, when all his bonus money runs out because he spent it all on car mods, xbox games, and beer. All his buds in his unit all do the same damn thing.
-Buy a used Accord, or Camry, if you absolutely have to have a "fun car" get a used Civic Si, or WRX
-Save your money/bonuses etc for a paying off debt, and/or save for a house
-Get as much training as possible, and take advantage of every single education opportunity the Service throws at you, because if you plan on getting out in the next couple years, you'll need to be competitive in a crappy job market.
I come from a family of military service (Army and Navy), with my dad, uncles, and cousins all worked hard, saved their money, and all by the time they were 30s, retiring as Majors/LTCs, had degrees, bought homes with large down payments, and solid jobs paying well over the average income in areas like Finance, Accounting, Logistics and Systems Engineering. Once they all took care of their priorities, they got their toys, including some very nice cars.
Sorry to lecture, but bottom line is, save your money soldier. And be safe out there.

I use to own a 09 370z, owned it for 8 months....it was a waste of money. I traded it in for a SRT-10 Ram....truck was awesome but the auto tranny was going and was costing $150 every 4-5 days in gas...so i bought my evo-x just about 3 weeks ago....man i tell you i love this car. I've ran it at the drag strip and it ran so smooth with only 300kms on it. Cant wait to get it to the next time attack race.
I too am in the army and i head to afghanistan in October for a 10 month tour...when i come back im paying the car off and sinking about 6-7 grand into mods.
Read the post you made on the 370z forums. I'll tell you straight up man, you do not want a 370z or a G37. You are in the military....you wont get any of your kit in the car. I could only get 1 duffle bag in the car and thats it...i had to make 4 trips to get my gear to the base for a domestic deployment. The 370z is a poor choice if you plan on having a baby down the road with your girl. Also they have a poor resale value. I lost $20,000 in the 8 months i owned the car and i traded it in with only 16,000km on it.
Trust me, buy a EvoX.
Like come on...which looks better.....

It's your money, do what you want with it. Because tomm. isnt always guaranteed. Esp, defending the country
But yeah, OP buy an evo x, trust me its worth it. I got a fam. perfect DD, also its built for track pretty much from the factory. easy to make fast. cant beat it.

Like i said in my OP i'm thinking of getting the car when i get back. And trust i don't plan on having "my parents paying for my car". I'm pretty sure i know what i'm doing as far as the finances go. Don't judge me a prematurely, based on your own exp. And keep in mind you don't anything about me. I understand that everyone has the own opinion, but that all that really didn't needed to be said. All i needed was for some good/constructive advice. I didn't join this forum to be called a kid.

Well i would post the same thing on the other forums, but ill be banned for the 3rd time...mods on that site are gay as ****. But for real man, i had the 370z. It's not what you want for military gear and if you want a family. The evo on the other hand can fit your gear (well most...i had to fit 2 huge pelican boxes in mine...barely got them in) and theres 5 seats. Plus the Evo is better on gas and alot better for track use.
Oh, and another issue with the 370z...it sucks *** at the track (road course) from the factory. It has poor oil cooling and brake cooling. We have a 1.5 mile track here and my car would go into limp mode on my 5th lap out of 7th. Also after the 7th lap i would come into the pits and my brakes would be smoking, which lead to my brake pads wearing down fast.

SN question, how is insurance on an evo, its not a deciding factor im jw?
lol yo snakes quit following me! haha jp
And keep in mind that the Evo X is a more compliant DD than the IX, minus the slightly larger frame and smaller trunk.
I work in insurance, and believe me when I say it is among the most expensive cars to insure. No joke. I've quoted myself with all sorts of cars for kicks (M3, M5, GT-R, Porsches, etc.), and the Evo is typically as much, if not more, than those. Luckily I don't pay too much now, but I'm getting older (as a lot of Evo owners my age or older don't pay too much), but you're still at the younger end of the spectrum.
