Questions from an Evo 9 owner possibly veering to a X MR
IMO, the issue is deeper. You aren't wanting out of your car because you dislike the IX, you want out because you have way overmodded it to the point it's not enjoyable off a racetrack. Plus, you have a ballistic sky-high payment, and that has to suck.
I could be wrong, but think you would just mod the X in the same way, to the point where you will be right back in the same spot.
To me, the best thing you could do is seriously de-mod that IX, sell all the extra parts you pull, pay it off within the next 10-12 months, and enjoy it at a lighter mod level since you only have room for one car.

Precisely why I sold my IX, I turned it into "not quite" a track car and then it sucked as a DD; bottom line it did nether to it's full potential because of what I did to it.
Dump the IX and buy a spec Miata or 944 for the track and then choose the best "fun" DD you can reasonably afford...doesn't necessarily mean a X

I wouldn't get rid of my VIII if the X was given to me free. So see there are people on each side of the fence.
I would own a X GSR but not if it meant giving up my VIII.
And as far as the X MR goes No Thanks.

I have a friend with an 08 MR that tracks a lot and he's always having issues with overheating his tranny (even with a cooler.)
I like the suggestions about buying a dedicated track car and a dd as well.

there is soo many talk about this from forum heroes and my friend has one or i never drove one but i dont even want it stories... LOL
why we dont listen to the ex WRC Audi driver -multiple rally champion, currently the Rally america last year champion and this year 2 nd place champion , mechanic and Evo guru. Buffum?
There is NO ONE in this forum is more qualified to make statements like this. He build drove Multiple Evos . Never mind the experience in racing etc behind him.
here is his point of view:
": Let’s compare the Evo X versus the Evo IX versus STI, from our standpoint anyway. The Evo X is better than the IX. It’s bigger, which is not better, but with the roads in United States and Canada, they tend to be somewhat wider than the European rally roads and they’re more flowing, which means a bigger car is not much of a drawback as it might be over in Europe. The Evo IX was the best Evo that had ever been done before the 10. They did their homework right on that with respect to the previous generations. "
"They had developed the car up to a fine point by the time they got up to the IX. The X is totally different. Totally different engine, gearbox, transfer box etc. Everything is completely different. This engine is a much newer design, maybe 4 or 5 years old, where the old engine [the 4G63] in the previous generations is a much older design [20 or so years old]. I’m not an engine expert by any means, but I’ve been told that the combustion chamber and things like that are better in this engine. It took some time for people to figure out and begin developing good parts for the Evo X, but now I would say an Evo X is faster down a 10-mile special stage than an Evo IX. Certainly the engine is one of the things that’s better about it. And same compared to the Subaru. Subaru is a very good car, many people run Subarus, but their engine is not as good as an Evo engine, an Evo engine is very, very good. And the Subaru engine does have some problems, as we’ve seen in certain situations."

i appriciate all of the responses...
it is pretty true though, i will modify the X as well.... but it wouldnt be to this extent... to be perfectly honest, and not being biased.. i just think the CT9A chassis looks better as a "track car".. it has more aggressive lines and just looks good dressed in a roll cage and crazy aero... the evo X is more of a sophisticated evo.. looks better as a modified street car, but can still keep up with a lot of the big boys on the track.... so i think with the X, i wont go as wild with it, simply because i think it looks better in a more "stealthy" form
we will see.... as of right now, im about 90% certian of doing the swap over...but it will be probably towards the end of the year.

I can't believe the $700/month payments! That sucks, but you only have a year and a half of payments less. If you get into an X how many years would you finance the car for?
If it were me, I would de-mod the IX as others have suggested, and enjoy it for awhile after it is paid of....unless of course you just want something new, then go for that!
Best of luck with you decision!
