Parts and tune
If your getting cams, injectors, bigger turbo, Intercooler kits, or other internals then yes a tune is required asap.
Basic bolt-ons you'll be fine but i would recommened you get a tune. Your gonna spend a good amount of money on an exhaust and intake and if u want to get the most out of those mods then get a tune.
My suggestion, would be to not buy parts focused around a tune. Any part you buy will perform better with a tune. hell your car STOCK will perform much better with a good tune. I debated this for awhile, and I opted to get together groups of parts. example, I am adjusting my entire airflow system. intake, intercooler + parts, full exhaust system(headers, downpipe, cat delete, Buschur cbe, and VTA BOV) doing these parts and then getting it tuned.
I have another batch of internal parts that I am going to buy after that, and then get them tuned. just my approach. However there isn't anyone here who can really vouch for aftermarket parts and suggest not getting a tune on them.

Now im going back in 2 weeks for another tune w/ new cams and valvetrain as well as a tune for e85.
Tuning gives you an opportunity to take advantage of the combination of your existing and new parts. Stock Xs have power ready to be released with a good tune. English Racing took my hours old 2011 MR from 256 WHP to 307 WHP. That's excellent performance for the money. I wish all mods did that. You can also have a tune created for an application like track days with higher octane fuel, then switch back to normal when you head home.
