Garret GT3071 vs GTX3071

Oops about the tittle....

Recently ordered some mods for my evo x including a GT3071. I'm not looking to get too much power maybe 380 at the most, but i do want to know where my money will be safer, if for w.e reason i decide to put up the boost or anything like that than which one will offer me a better outcome for the present and the future. maybe one is better is some areas than the other or vise versa. I don't want too much power because i do want to run my car as safe as possible. I'ts my daily driver and i need to take care of it as much as i can.

Why did you not get a stock frame turbo? Your moving from a twin scroll turbo to a single scroll. An FP green would get you to your goal of 380 and be a great DD

I was highly suggested the GT, but reading around people have better reviews of the gtx.

The GTX is much nicer than the GT, but as Supraboy said, go stock frame for a daily driver with <400HP goals.

OP - Are you talking about a universal turbo or Garrett's bolt-on stockframe kit?

If you're shooting for 380whp though, here are the three stockframe turbos I'd recommend looking at:
FP Green
CBRD BBXLite
MAP EF2

I would ask to see if i can get the gtx.
Both are bb and twinscroll turbos.
Both should be same price new. Also your dealer might be just trying to clear his old inventory. The old GT turbo had IWG issue. Hence the bad rep and noone buying. They have fixed this but i don't know if they only fix when people break them or they recalled all the turbos.

I broke mine in less then 800 miles. The vendor i got it from ignored my ***, a vendor on this board. I switched to EWG and it ran fine ever since. Which is what majority of the first adopters did. We all switched to EWG due to the down time that was required to get warrantied.

With the gtx out right now i would not purchase the gt unless it was like $500+ cheaper.

Gtx spools faster too. BB for both should give quicker response on the road course too.

As for hitting your 380 on pump it should be possible. I was making on my 3076r semi tuned on 25psi pump 350-380whp. Then i switched to e85 and up the boost to 28psi to hit 450whp.

The Garretts can be had in small and big A/Rs (0.73 and 0.94 I think). It's my guess the GTX3071 with the 0.73 A/R will make almost the power of the GT3076 w/ 0.94 A/R, but spool about 500rpms faster.

Just found you can upgrade the old gt to gtx.

I'm probably going to upgrade mine once i see some numbers people make.

Probably have to call them since they say for new orders only.

That will not be working for me though :/ it states only for the gt3076r i got the 71. we bought it directly from garret, they only had two in stock. Lets hope all goes well my idea is to later on upgrade to AMS turbos. I also bought cams and springs. Lets see how everything turns out. Ill post up my dyne sheets when everything arrives and is installed.
