clear bra after a few years?
clear bra after a few years?
I am going to get the 3M ventureshield material put on my car but I'm just wondering which parts to do. Basically I'm worried about seeing lines / dirt / scratches on the car where the clear bra stops, or seeing the paint look like its faded / 2 different colors after a few years. Is this a valid concern or is it barely noticeable with today's film? I've never seen a car with a clear bra on it up close.
I can get the standard kit which is precut and covers bumper, half of fenders, and 18 inches or 24 inches (i forget) of the hood I believe for $650, or a custom job that covers full hood, bumper, full fenders for $1500. I know its overpriced, but the place that does it handles all of the exotic cars so I know it will be done correctly and warranty good on it.
to sum it up:
Full hood / bumper / fenders or just use the kit? Will the car look ugly after a few years if I just go with the kit which does not cover full hood?
car is phantom black

I think the paint will slightly be faded compared to the untouched paint. Especially on PB. I passed on the clear bra, the dude wanted $750 or exactly what your guy does. I may be wrong about the paint fade though.
I've had clearbra on my 08 GSR since the dealership installed it right before I bought it in May 2008, so it's been over 3 years. I still have it on and it's still holding up great. I am thinking its probably about time to take it off but I'm worried about getting a ton of rock chips.
Cost aside, the bigger question is "Do you currently have any chips in the paint where the clear bra would go?" I put clear bra on after I got a couple of chips and it causes those spots to be exaggerated/highlighted, so to speak. (At least on the front bumper parts that are plastic, so it's not really a paint chip, as maybe a pit.)
As for being able to see where the clear bra ends, it really isn't noticeable 90 some percent of the time. The clear bra seems to attract dust quicker than the rest of the car. So you'll start to possibly see it a couple weeks after washing your car. Other than that, you really don't notice the clear bra at all when you just walk by.

I had a full custom clear bra put on within a week of buying my car, since I drive year round and put on mostly highway miles.
It was about $1400 to completely cover the front hood, front bumper, front aero package lip, mirrors, headlamps, aero package side skirts, front fenders, and the aero package rear bumper 'flare' thing.
The only rock chips I have are small ones on the roof, leading edge of the rear spoiler, and the aero package gurney flap / wicker.
