Grimmspeed 3port solenoid

I have a bit of a question about these boost solenoids. I understand what they do, and have a fair understanding of how they work. I know they use it to put boost where you want it. However, I thought with the way our ECU responds to things it was largely controlled by spring rate on the DV.

this looks like a really appealing way to maximize my boost levels after I get Jestr to tune it. Given the mod list in my signature. would it still be worth it to have one of these after installed a Forge RS DV?

I hate to seem like I am "bumping" my own topic senselessly. I am trying to educate myself prior to making what may be a senseless purchase.

Does anyone know if a 3 port solenoid like this is useful with a decent BOV already installed?

Mmmm dude, the DV doesn't control boost... the 3port solenoid is for people who want to raise boost but still have control of it with the stock ECU ( you need a tuner to set it up, don't just install a 3port and go blowing everything up...)
Other ways to manage boost are a manual controller, or an electronic one.
Install your forge dv, it will not alter anything, specially on stock boost levels.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to have Jestr install and tune it. Now I thought by setting a different rate on the DV you could control your boost levels. a sort of manual boost controller, as it were.

with that, it almost seems like it would be better suited to help insure boost pressure is held at the desired levels before leaking? It just seems that with an aftermarket BOV a solenoid would be moot since the DV would hold boost where you want it before leaking it off.

I appreciate the input.

No dude, to be honest with you, you don't even need to replace the stock DV, which happens to be just fine for the mods you have.
To raise boost, you need a boost controller, in this case, the 3port along with a tune will be perfect, DV doesn't work the way you are saying does, my advice ( not trying no sound mean at all ) is read and learn some more about turbo cars and it's components, plenty of info here/internet
Good luck,
Ed

I appreciate the advice. and this is where I'm trying to resolve the confusion between these two parts. I ordered the replacement DV for two reason. the first, to help fight the leaky boost at 22 PSI, and the second... to amp up the volume(the only rice I have in my head I promise!). I haven't been able to find a concise answer on these Solenoids. I know they are used to control boost, but I didn't realize they function like a full electronic boost controller. If that's the case it answers my question entirely. I just can't find any in depth documntation on these things that's conclusive for my question.

Thanks for the insight Ed!

so, I just re-read the page on Grimmspeed and it's comparison to a Manual Boost controller. I see where I was screwing up in my logic. This would be a perfect way to describe a "brain fart"

http://www.grimmspeed.com/catalog/pr...3s5ftijuqu2fd4

that's the grimmspeed page and it has a great write up on how it works. For some reason, I was thinking this device served to resolve a leaky stock solenoid. Yeah. Now does my confusion, however unbased it was, make more sense? lol
