I don't recommend doing this since I had a bad experience with it. I did this. Bought it from CA. I had to pay CA taxes and and screw me over by them registering it in Cali. I got CA plates and I had to change it to TX plates. I'm pissed at myself cause I let them screw me over. I just think that we had a good time driving it back home (Road trip!).

Ok talked to a sales mngr at my place. He said if you drive it off, you have to pay the sales tax but some states that are the same will waive the taxes in the home state or if it is more, then you just pay the difference.

I live in Oregon. Back in 2006 I bought a brand s2k in the bay area. Flew in, paid them with a check, they gave me a trip permit to get out of cali. Drove back to Oregon and registered it. No cali tax.

Maybe something has changed since then, if it indeed has and there is no way to avoid the tax, don't buy in Cali.

my two cents.

Dealerships should make a fair price and profit. But at 5K difference its worth driving elsewhere.

I have bought 3 vehicles out of state. 2 from Florida. Flew down and drove them home. One was an S2000 and the other was a convertible 350Z. Then I bought one in Texas. A 3000GT VR4. Drove that home too.

I only had to pay the tax in my state. I think it would be crazy for any state to make you pay sales tax on it if it is not going to be registered there. I would tell the dealer you will not buy from them if they are going to make you pay sales tax when you will just have to pay it again when you get home. That just doesn't make any sense.

California is different.. I guess according to Sam w/ southcoast i dnt have to psy sales tax n nebraska if i pay it in cali..

Also he said i could license the evo n california and then when i have to renew jus get it switched over to nebraska.. This seems good idea.

Would i get n trbl for this from nebraska?

Most states give you 30 days to register an out of state car to your home address. if it goes beyond 30 days then you could get hit with fines...the only way they could really catch you is if you get pulled over so it's risk/reward

What if they were to complete all the paperwork, have them send you the bill of sale, COF, and any other documentation necessary to register and title the car; you go to your DMV and get the plate and registration, take it everything with you to CA, slap on your State's plate and go?
