Its a Love / Hate Relationship.
The evo is a guzzler on the freeway, where, if you drive over 70 mph, you are luky to get 18 to 19 mpg. Both the vw and the mercedes would constantly get over 28 mpg on the freway.
Most of my miles are in the city so its ok for me, unles i forget about mpg and remember i drive an evo, and than i can only see 12 , 13 mpg....

On the other hand, my whifes volvo xc90 only gets about 15.5 mpg in the city, but if i drive it i only get about 14 mpg. No kidding, i have a heavy foot....
So, i gues just enjoy the car, and be happy that u have the option of getting 23 mpg in the city if you want to. You can also get that on the highway if u drive at 60 mph.

Funny, but, 23 mpg in the city isn't bad at all for a 300 hp car. My 1.8 t passat never got over 22 mpg, and my 2002 c class coupe 230 kompressor, never got anywhere over 21 mpg in the city.

The MPG meter.
I love the fact that it tells me how well I'm doing, but Y U NO GO ABOVE 23MPG?!?
I'm still breaking the car in and babying it / driving like a grandma with the occasional quick sprint. As soon as I push the gas down a little the green bar goes away
Otherwise, I'm in love. A little over 300 miles on the car, and I'm constantly breaking out in grins.
But, does anyone else get that feeling?

If you like I would be MORE than willing to trade you my 09 ES
. Seriously we can do a straight trade, you'll love the 40 mpg's, downsides, you won't like driving anything above 0 mph. But it's fun to sit inside it and PRETEND it's an Evo
You think thats bad wait till you open her up lol.......You can go though a 1/4 tank or more in an evening with some spirited driving.
on the other hand the nice thing about a turbo is if you really try, I mean really try you can get decent mileage out of it, IE (about suv numbers)
Drive it and have fun thats why you bought it.

funny enough, when i first got my X, i cant get more than 160-180miles per tank...through odometer. but now i get 230...but thats coz im "progessively" driving...meaning not being too hard on the accelerator.
but also, before the gas meter says im averaging 16mpg. i tried to beat that now...and one time i actually got the reading to say 24.5mpg!! haha! but that also means watching the green bar not recede the white bar and driving on the freeway.
now im averaging 18mpg city, 22mpg hwy...12 city/16hwy if im in a hurry!
also, when i was driving 160-180 per tanks...that was before i bought the AP. now im flashed to AEM stage 1, and thats when my MPG became better. i guess its true that the cars does run pig rich!

Well let me re-assure you that 23mpg is way better than the 16-18 tops I got in my RX8's no matter how I drove. Heck 23mpg is FANTASTIC for one of the fastest cars on the road...
Sure it can drop but when you are cruising on the highway and youre not on the boost it settles back and becomes almost an economy car low to mid 20's....we have the best of both worlds in my opinion. But again I was used to the 8...which was like I had a hole in the gas tank and no torque.

not only in gas, in general this is the biggest love hate relationship i have in my life. one day i want to sell her and one day i want to find technology to artificially inseminate her. good thing im not married yet
anyway, if you drive 12k miles/year, 23 mpg compared with 30 mpg will cost you an additional $486/year
