Honestly your only bad mod is likely the lack of the catalytic converter. They are likely covering their bases now that there are federal laws with all this.

I think you are out of luck. If you would have just done a catback and drop in filter and a factory clutch and flywheel you would probably be fine. You mess with the sensors (MAF, O2s etc) you mess with the warranty. That is the easiest way to look at it.

And how do you know they locked out the ECU? Trying to flash it? That's a no no for warranty coverage too.

thats the thing about warranties. its just safer to not mod the car.
since you have mods. the dealer have a stand in this.

The dealer has nothing to do with it. They just essentially raise their hand and say "I have an evo in need of a warranty" and then its Mitsu who comes and says yay or nay. Hence why the Attorney General (state program) can do nothing and I have to go through the Federal Trade Commission and the BBB cuz warranties are federally regulated

That's not really accurate. The way it works is all the dealerships call. The way the warranty works (since dealerships are franchised and owned independently) is the dealership does the work, but bills Mitsu. All the dealership is doing by having a corporate rep approve/disapprove is assure that the dealer will be reimbursed for cost of parts, labor, fees and sometimes a loaner/rental car.

There is nothing stopping a dealership to fix your car as their customer, even if Mitsu would not approve the work and pay the dealership. I mean, it's common sense it's not good business to do work for free, and I've never heard of a dealership doing it on something more than a fluid change, or miscellaneous labor like mounting a tire, swapping a belt, etc.

However, there was a thread I read where a person bought a used Evo, and left it stock. The TC case ate itself alive, and the clutch was blown. The dealer saw heat markings on the clutch and said warranty wouldn't cover it. Later we found out that the customer had been at the dealership a month before complaining of clutch/drivetrain issues. The dealer said nothing was wrong and sold them a brake job, claiming that was the issue.

The dealer than fixed the car once he came to take pictures of the damaged parts and mentioned getting an attorney.

This is a case where I'm sure the dealer talked the regional Mitsu rep into covering this damage, but I could see a very smart Service Manager having the dealership pick up the tab on this, because if a lawyer did get involved, this would not go over well with Mitsu corporate on the service department, and would likely affect supply for sales and stuff.

SO, if this was TL;DR remember this:
1) Service Department Managers and Dealership Owners can do more for you as a customer than you would guess. It's their business, and every good business survives on their customers and the things their customers will say.

2)Mitsu Corporate; may or may not ever be involved with certain warranty cases, all depends on costs, parts, safety cases, and customer attitudes and stupidity.
