Nzo - Isn't it about car setup that dictates how it'd do on a road coarse? I believe in last years castrol's challenge, the supra came up on top on their time attack event. Yes, lots of supras are high horsepower drag cars. The reason why I even considered the supra is because it's basically a US version of Japan's GTR. Always liked them, but never owned.

Thank you all for your advise / input!
I'm sure there are plenty of very well performing TA supras, but if my aim was to build a TA car I would pick an evo without much thought, but thats just me.

It sounds like you've always owned AWD cars. I've spoken with other people who have similar concerns, i.e., they felt AWD platforms were less challenging/more anemic. I'm wondering if all you need is a switch to a RWD platform, and that means that you can keep your EVO as a daily driver, and get a cheap/beater RWD car that is overpowered. My guess is that you definitely won't need a 700 hp RWD to offer you challenges at a track. Hell, a used Mustang would probably do the trick.

Fair enough. Why not look for a factory-configured package like your Ducati? In some ways, you're talking about re-engineering the machine. Ask yourself if you feel comfortable doing that. I know I'm not. You'll have to trust people, some of whom will disappoint you, you'll spend endless weeks/months waiting for revised parts that will cure whatever problem you'll be having, which of course they won't, and in a few years you'll sell the car to someone looking to do the same thing. Buy the car you want to begin with. Good luck.

I hope I am not communicating that I dislike my Evo X, I like it, but I'm not loving it like I did. I use to really enjoy driving, but now not so much. So basically, I am at a crossroad where I'm choosing to mod the Evo (end goal seems like a heafty $$$) or move to another platform to spir on that passion to drive again.
I used to work in the High-End Audio industry. We're talking about 2-channel home music systems that start at ~$10K and go up from there - best of the best. It was common to meet folks who were constantly changing components - at a tune of many thousands of dollars at a time - to make their favorite recordings sound better (don't even get me started) and to reignite their passion for music. It never happens. If the guy - it's always a guy - didn't have a passion for music and a ginormous record collection before he discovered High-End, it certainly wasn't going to appear at a later date.

[OT] While I'm on the subject, consider what you see on the forums, magazines, etc. I had a +$50K system that cost me quite a bit less, putting it mildly. Let me give an example: My cables that cost more than most folks pay for used cars were free. Yes, free. I paid nothing, because the manufacturer felt my use of the wire would promote his product. It did. My phono cartridge that retails for ~$3500 cost me less than $500, because its designer felt the same way as the cable manufacturer. The same thing happens in the auto modification business. The cars you see exampled don't necessarily cost their owners what you pay. [/OT]

It's true a stock block Supra will yield higher numbers than the evo, where above the 375wtorque on the Evo you'll want to build a block. However, given that even the newest Supra is 15 years older than a relatively new X, chances are you'll have to build the block on the supra too just from mileage.

building the supra bottom end will cost 150% compared to the Evo just because you have 2x pistons, rods, bearings, etc.

Another suggestion to go big power for the amount of cash you'd have into buying a 93-95 supra and building is a Z06 Vette used. That gets you starting power where you can do inexpensive building and get to your supra goals. The vette is in a club like the supra, 3000GT, and Euro builds though, stuff will get expensive fast. Z06 is a great car though.

Just get a used Corvette Z06; it will be ready for all-day-long tracking with no mods required.
