Hey guys..
New to the EvoM forums and thinking about a 2.0L engine build for my 08 GSR...
In my research I have come across several topics surrounding how best to break in an engine, and this article in particular caught my eye:

I did a 1000 mile baby break in (no boost) on the wifes Genesis 2.0T. Slowly started to roll on boost until 1500 miles then did a few WOT pulls. > Immediate change to Motul 8100 5w40
Its currently at 5000k and there has been zero oil consumption.

Interesting-- what did the oil look like?
I spoke with a friend of mine who broke in his AMS 2.0L crate motor using this method for the first 20 miles.
It makes sense to me-- I'm more concerned about the potential pitfalls.

I have nothing in writing to back this. but I was confident, and the dealer confirmed, that there is a break in done at the factory before we even see the car. Sooo... I pulled off the like like an asshat. I went on a road trip a couple days after the purchase, from Florida to South Carolina... most of the trip was.... above responsible speed at that. I did very little babying.
This was largely because of my timeline before redeployment, and given more time I probably would have been atleast slightly more gentle with the throttle.

Also-- Isn't it bad to go on a road trip with a new car? From what I understand, having a consistent RPM (Idle, Cruising) is bad for the car, as it gets used to operating at one particular speed/load.
I just made sure I didn't redline for the first 1000 miles... although, I kinda like the ol' "drive it like you stole it" method right from the get go. Besides the fact that it sounds funny, every friend of mine who used that method (including myself) , no matter what car it was, turned out fine and never had major engine problems... but at the end of the day, it may just be the luck of the draw.

I drove it like any regular car my first day with 6 miles on the odometer. I think the most important thing is to make sure the car is at least up to operating temperature before you do any driving for the first few hundred miles.
Drove it like I stole it off the lot...WOT'd @ 600 miles. Hit boost several times. Still runs good, car now has 4.2K on the odo and I'm on factory fluids. Going to do an oil change and filter swap at 5K then full flush at like 10K, before my 15K service.
The rings will seat pretty damn fast, like within 20-30mins. So keep varying load/engine rpm on the motor initially with lots of vacuum pulls the first drive and even after. I did vacuum pulls for like the first 300 miles.
My car was on the dyno with 400 miles on it, both built motors. My shop said it doesn't even take that long to be ready, but they like a little more mileage on the car to check for leaks etc.

I beat the hell out of my car from the get go... And I didn't have one issue with the motor or consumption of oil..
AMS did break in on my 2.3 motor but i would think that is mostly to just make sure there are no issues or leaks, after that, beat the hell out of it and no issues..
think about it, shortly after most cars get major mods done they are on the dyno quickly after completion.

did you keep stay under 5500 rpms? or did u go over when u were under 600 miles?
