Scared Crapless!!!! Used 89 octane for 1 tankful
as others have said, just stay outta boost, shift early and dont rev the **** outta it and youll be fine. Drain it as low as possible (usually 2 gallons left after the light goes on) then fill up with 93. Go low on that tank and refill. your car will be fine as the evos are pig rich from the factory and the ecu will compensate.
happened to me when I filled with 93 but it was crap gas. car ran like **** and SES light came on instantly. let it idle for a long time, drove easy, and drained it as low as possible before filling.
just a question. is this your first performance/boosted car? What would make you think you could/should/would want to put 89 in your car? is a boosted car, put 93 or 91 if you live in nazifornia.
read a great article about people complaining about the $ diff between reg and premium. but then those same ppl spend $5 on a starbux latte. average $0.10 difference between 91 and 93. 14 gallon tank (8/9). Thats $1.40 extra for the best performance possible. stop being cheap people and handle your bizness. end rant
edit: Octane booster doesnt do crap, dont even worry about that junk unless your putting 5 gallons in

Well this was 2 tanks ago now..lol..but i do appreciate your input!!! I did exactly what you said basically and stayed under 3K rpm but i also put the best octane booster in i could find and even if it didnt do anything it subconsciously made me feel better
I never threw a light or felt it running poorly at all but a light went off in my head and when i checked the manual i started freaking out lol. And no this is not my first performance car so I really dont know what I was thinking... My last car was a 03 Mustang GT with a 93oct tune but normally they run fine on 87 because they have no power adder.. I also owned a 1991 300zx turbo and I always put 93 in that...I was a little short on cash driving the car home ( because the mustang ate through gas on the way there) and so I wanted to make sure i got home and for some reason didnt think much into it...It was a stupid move and i do know better....Shame on me...but all is well now! I let it go down to about 1/8 of a tank and refilled with 93 and took it semi easy on that tank ( under 5Krpm) and then let that get down to less than half and refilled again with 93 and thats where im at now. I am also going to start throwing 2-3 oz of Lucas injector cleaner in with each tankful....
