im thinking differential at this point too because of the other high pitched noises it's making on top of the whine. either way if insurance doesn't pick this up i know i'm going to be breaking the bank for this repair.

I've never been in a rally car so i'm not sure!

I'm going to take an updated vid soon and post it for future users. the higher pitched sounds are more pronounced now.

 

Just an update for future references-
it was indeed the transfer case that was producing this noise. The mitsu warranty is taking care of me .

The dealership I bought the car from told me that due to my accident the warranty wouldn't apply to this fix. I took it to a different dealership and they actually had a Mitsubishi representative look at it. They decided to replace my whole t-case for 90 bucks. I guess the accident and driving with the 4WD light was an unrelated issue. Either way I'm psyched and I get the car back hopefully sometime next week. Anyone have experience with a dealership t-case swap and can shed some light on how many days approx. it should take?
