What are all you Evo drivers driving this winter?
Couldn't take it and took the car out yesterday. It was a relatively warm day, so I washed it after getting back, which brings me to the point of my post. Those who frequent the detailing forum know that I typically lay down ~1,100 layers of durable sealant to harden and protect the paint. My car has mudflaps, as well. After washing the salt off the paint near the fenders, which would have been much worse without the mudflaps, all the paint protection was gone. All of it. FWIW.
^ Agreed. That damn road salt is about the worst wax/sealant stripper I have ever seen, which is why I don't drive my nice cars in the winter. I used to swear by JetSeal, but it seems to last about one day with the salt/sand slurry. I wish Minnesota would use Calcium Magnesium Acetate instead of Calcium Chloride. CMA is much better for the environment and does not corrode metal. Until then, I will continue to drive my old, little, faithful Toyota Corolla.
I dont DD my MR(too many miles to where I work). This is my first winter with my X. I decided to not take it out much this winter. I also fear the salt of NW Ohio. I am going to get winter wheels for next winter though.
If there is an emergency and I have to go somewhere in the middle of a snowstorm, I want to have the most capable car possible. Also when the roads are completely snow covered salt isnt much of a factor, but the fun factor is
I dont want to DD drive my evo in the salt, but I will def have some occassional snow fun every winter.

but that is a different story as a DD.... entirely.
The Evo X is my DD. I will be driving it in the snow and any kind of weather. I will also put alot of miles on it. When I get the car paid off, ill just buy another Evo (or STI if I have a change of heart). Maybe by then either car will have even more improvements. I dont beat on my car, but im not afraid to drive it. It would be nice to make it a "garage queen". But its not a $100k+ car and life is too short.
I do have another vehicle tho. Its a GMC Sonoma w/ mods. If I ever have the time to get it back to running shape again, that can be the DD or I can sell it for another DD. But for now, im driving the Evo.
