Question How to remove center console piece under the HVAC

I'm trying to figure out how to get the plastic piece out of the center console that is below the HVAC and in front of the shifter. I'm looking to drill a hole in the back of it near the top to run gauge lines for my wideband. The wideband will be in the location of the two threads below, but just mounted to the top of the open spot leaving the bottom area clear.

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...e-install.html

I know it's low but I'm not too worried about constantly keeping an eye on it, I'll mainly just use it for data logging and taking a glance when I can. I followed directions to remove the center console and the upper trim pieces described in these two threads:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...-evo-x-mr.html
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...-evo-10-a.html

There were still a few pieces in the way and I was hesitant to just start pulling on pieces, I didn't want to break anything. This picture shows the piece I was stuck at:

I removed those screws and I was able to get the lower plastic piece off that runs all the way to the firewall, but the two pieces in the upper right of that picture weren't cooperating. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just did the same wideband install a few weeks ago, took me a while to figure it out also. If I remember correctly, remove the side panels, the one in your picture, there is also a screw farther in the footwell. I then think you have to pull the radio towards you so the bottom comes unclipped, then you can fit a screwdriver in there and remove 2 more screws. It should then come straight out. Hope this helps. If not, try to find the evo technical manual, think it is posted somewhere on this site. It is a great thing to have for reference since it shows you the order of pieces that need to be removed and how the part is clipped in.

What pieces did you have to take off? Did you just come up from taking off the center console? Or did you have to remove the glove box, dash trim, HVAC controls?

You just have to take off the dash trim, which means glove box and the side piece by passenger door. Once the trim piece is off you can pull on the radio.

I managed to get it out and the wideband installed. The tricky part was that the little piece I was after was actually screwed to the HVAC piece from the back. I did have to remove the center console again and slide it back a few inches to make room to pull the center piece out completely. After removing the two screws behind the bottom of the radio the HVAC came out fairly easily. I'll post a few pictures tomorrow incase anyone is interested.

Where's the pictures? I wanna see how yours turned out. I'm doing something similar to the first link except mine is flush with the console box under the HVAC and I used an Acrylic sheet. Paint is drying now and I'm waiting on my Wideband to arrive. I'll post final pics when it's all finished.

Here's what it looks like before paint. The bottom will come a little over the ashtray because I didn't want it so far back in the box that I can't see it.

Final Pic after paint and install:
