2012 smoother transmission!

2012 smoother transmission!

Hey Guys,

Just thought id put my .02 on the transmission for the 2012 Evo X! Mitsubishi did a fine job smoothing out the gears in the transmission and i dont feel any notchiness whats so ever that i felt when driving the older years. just an FYI!

Good to hear! Hopefully Jack's can tear one down and note any actual mechanical changes versus the prior years.

I felt the same notchy-ness from 2nd and 3rd like my 2010 It doesn't grind per say but it just has that mechanical quirk.

How many miles do you have? Im at 546 right now

really? i drove my friends 2010 and it had the notchy-ness and i have yet to feel it on my car.. i just hit 350

mine is 2008 march , never was notchy , not even today. There is any change in the transmission in 2012?

Perhaps they used a different transmission fluid or placed better bushings.
My problem went away after 500 miles on a new 2010 GSR with the above said installed.

When I drove a stock 2011 GSR in the summer on a very hot day I noticed the transmission shifted a lot smoother.
Drove it slightly modified in the winter, it had the grind. Took 2-3-4 up to redline and it was like magic. The grind went away and it shifted like butter back when I hit local driving.
3 days later I get a phone call saying the grind was back lol.

I'm very curious to see what was changed on the 2012 if anything. I doubt it though.

What fluid do you guys change to? I heard redline mix, then i heard amsoil, then i heard something about MTL or somethin' what is the damn one to put in!?

Cocktail : MTL and MT90 2:1

Maybe I'll do MT-85 at my service interval, but I heard stories about very notchy 1-2 cold morning grinds. Can't say I had that problem with the cocktail

My '11 GSR's transmission is still a POS.. Will grind from 1st to 2nd if you shift too fast... Never fails. Dealer could not "replicate the issue" so nothing was done for me. When I mean shift too fast, its nothing like I would consider fast.. Just faster than shifting too slow is honestly a bad thing. You can hear the synchro complaining.

Yea I really need to replace the bushings and fluids. When its cold out it grinds like no other.

My 11' only has problems with 1st to 2nd in cold weather, and it goes away quickly. I tried the MT-85, and wasn't impressed so I moved onto the MTL (by Redline's own recommendation)... haven't looked back since. I've done the shifter cage and bushings, and it was of little help for this issue. Wait till' you get more miles, and then it'll be more noticeable.

My 2011 does it 1st to 2nd, but seems to be more noticeable when it's cold. It's more of a notch than a grinding sound. I saw someone posted in a another thread on here that the dealers usually won't do anything about it and if you change the type of fluid you kill your warranty. I don't how true that is.

Started OEM (obviously), then went to the Redline cocktail, and am now using Amsoil.
the OEM wasn't very nice in the cold but was decent in the warm.
The Redline was amazing for the first 500miles or so, then it was decent all around. Pretty nice actually.
The Amsoil seems great when heated up, but it's not fun when everything is cold. It's definitely the worst in cold weather. I can't wait to see what Summer is like though
