Steering wheel shakes

Hey guys I just figure I ask you guys does your steering wheel shake pretty bad when going fast? Once i get around 75mph it starts to shake, I have a lead foot so I'm always going 80mph on highways and my steering wheel shakes pretty much. Kind of like a mini hand massage to be honest haha. It has always done this since i remembered so I thought it might be normal. Could something be loose maybe or is it normal. Anyone shed some light onto this.

that can be a sign of improper wheel balancing, or it could be worse than that.

Check your tires as well. They could have unbalanced wear on them as well, which would also cause this.

Steps to fix Steering wheel issue:

1. Make sure all tires are inflated at the correct psi.
2. Take car and have a professional perform a wheel balance and a wheel alignment.

If above fails, then you have a bent wheel.

Any snow on the ground where you are? Snow in the rim will cause a vibration like that.

even after 4 wheel alignment and balance I get shake starting at 75.. it's mainly the road because on other sections it's fine, on the same road if I'm at 70 it's fine.. your still going to get fare amount of road feedback with a perfect setup going over 75 imo

I have the same problem, but only on certain roads around here. I know my alignment/tires/wheels are all good. It's just a "feature" of the Evo! They are squirrely as all get out on imperfect roads.

Thanks for the suggestions. I took it in for a balance and turns out that my front left driver was basically shot and that what was causing it. Really uneven wear on the tire. Inside was bald then then 2 inches were fine then center inside center of the tire was bald. Well i got it aligned and balanced but no new tires yet since im ordering my rims this week. Didn't even think to check my tires since they were basically new.

Thanks everyone

No, look closer. really. You will usually find something bent or out of balance.

it must have vibrated pretty bad. i know the problem is fixed but I've always had a small vibration at 90mph since i bought the car 4 years ago. i have two sets of wheels and tires and it does it equally with both sets. i can accelerate to 100+mph and it's nice and smooth but on deceleration or cruising at 90mph it vibrates. (see avatar for speed explanation)

Check your rotors, or possibly a bent tie rod or arm or worn bushings, presuming the car has been aligned a few times. Above about 90 or so, wheel balancing no longer plays a significant factor. We don't even balance the race wheels.

A rotor pad interface can feel a little vibration when they have cooled down too fast. With race pads this is usually solved by burning off the accumulated crud by hard braking at high speed. Presuming it isn't that, try swapping your rotors with some new ones (it is good to have a back up set anyway) and see if that does the trick. The wear might be a little uneven. If not, look at your arms and bushings.

Let me know, I have some spare Girodisc rotors if you want to borrow a set.
