How do you choose brands?

Being new to the Evo X world I'm curious how you guys choose what part maker to purchase? I mean just looking at exhaust there is information overload. But it seems like with every part there are tons of makers. Do you just get brand loyal? Watch YouTube? I tend to research too much which makes deciding tougher. Just curious.

Thanks

Research, research, and more research. I also follow the suggestions and advice from shops I work closely with that have proven themselves to me.

I run based on product quality, performance, and price is in there too. I dont run something unless I have done my research.

I just read around the forums and see what guys are using. It also doesn't hurt to speak with a good tuner to see what your goals are. That way they can point you in the right direction. I'm getting hooked on ETS products. Good quality parts and fantastic customer service.

Quick responses, thanks. Yea I have the research part down. Sometimes on my iPad until 2am on a work week.. But sometimes that just narrows it down to a half dozen. I guess once I start modding more I will learn more and it won't be such a tough choice.

I narrowed the springs down. And I'm certain about the Cobb AP but exhaust will be a tough one. Trying to find the right performance, sound, and look. I guess that's the fun part of owning this car. I get to spend my days thinking about what parts to add next.

Out of curiosity, what brands would be considered the "best, money is no problem" and what would be maybe cheaper but decent quality and maybe what to stay away from? Hope this isn't opening a can of worms. But just in general what would be Nordstroms and what would be Walmart? Ah a sign there are too many women in my house when I'm using stores for a comparison on a cars site. Sad.

Read around the forums long enough until you find the parts that are built with your interests in mind.

Generally speaking, if you're expectations/requirements are low, it might be easy to find the right part(s). The more choosy you get, the choices are limited, and usually get more expensive.

Parts reviews by other members help out a lot. Once you find some specific options, just look for reviews on them. Most times members do a pretty thorough pros and cons evaluation.

Power: Any 3" exhaust will make very similar power numbers; this includes single 3" exhausts and dual exhausts that go from a 3" mid-pipe to 2.25/2.5" duals.

Weight: Singles will weigh less.

Sound: Duals with generally be quieter with a smoother, less harsh, tone. Do you want something on the quiet or loud-end of the spectrum?

Appearance: Do you want something that looks somewhat stockish or do you want big aftermarket cans to be visible?

Performance, then looks, and lastly price as my deciding factors. Brand never comes in to play.

I found a good friend that knows alot about Evo's from whom i buy everything from, he kind of leads me in the right direction for everything. IMO some of the better brands with our cars are AMS, ETS, and Cobb. There are plenty of other good ones out there thought.
