Red face signs/symptoms of chain stretch?

Hello again,

just wondering what are some of the audible symptoms of chain stretch? my motor has a kind of, only-sometimes, wierd-sounding idle. obviously its pointless trying to describe without a video, but im at work right now lol.

from what i've read here, the chain issue just happens without caution... but i'm wondering if anyone remembers any pre-emptive symptoms to the chain failure.

the sound is a light tapping, sometimes louder than other times, the noise may fade in-and-out of volume from here to there

thanks

It should throw a code, not sure of the number, but it reads as timing chain related.

Lifter tick? Does it do it mostly when it's cold? Go away after the car warms up?

I reinstalled the stock cat this weekend which was a PITA. The nut on the end that connects the mid pipe stripped when I was uninstalling it so when I when to reinstall it the bolts wouldn't thread so I just hacked it off with a saws all and presto problem solved lol.

I just didn't want the dealership giving me crap for not having a cat installed lol

It takes about 1 hr to check it. Top dead center the motor and take valve cover off. Look down the chain and see if it is passed the indicator or not. Firewall(exhaust) cam look down and you can see if it passes the indicator mark or now. If under Warranty just bring to a dealer

Ya I got cel on mine . It "should" but there have been cases that didn't and the chain was extremely stretched.

My car threw a p0012 code tonight and I have been having poor idle issues too. When I'm sitting at a light the idle will be stable then flutter above and below 1k then stabilizes again. I just read about a service bulletin in reference to the 08-11 x's and it had to do with this same cam sensor code. Does anyone know more about this? Is it legit?

I work at a Mitsubishi dealer. The p0012 is the vvt to retard aka timing chain stretched.
