AFR = Air Fuel Ratio

WOT = Wide Open Throttle aka pedal to the metal

AFR - air/fuel ratio. Tells you how rich you're running. The lower the number the richer (less parts air per 1 part fuel). 11 is a safe number at WOT.

WOT - wide open throttle. When you push down your pedal you're opening the throttle letting more air in. when it's wide open, you're bringing in as much as you can. In other words, the pedal's hitting the floor.

Yeah its nothing. The Evo runs rich stock from the factory. This is so there won't be any issues with detonation. The black smoke is normal for the Evo.

For the new guys, if you haven't tied your FPR hose, yet, I would recommend doing so. Just take a zip-tie and tighten it down, because it can come off and cause you to run dangerously lean. There is a thread somewhere in the How-To section about it and where it is.

Why would you not? I wasnt saying anything other than that guys car was smoking a lot. Either needing a tune or not...his was smoking alot and was not normal. We ended up exiting the same exit and got stuck at the same light. It was smoking alot in idle as well.

Wait a minute....were you that guy and his smoking beat up car?

It is completely normal. The x's run rich which causes the black smoke. Especially if you have an aftermarket exhaust. Ask a new stock x driver to WOT and follow behind them and even with stock exhaust there will be a little smoke but when adding an aftermarket exhaust it does it more. I accidently last night rev'd it in my garage with the garage door down and now have a 8inch circle of black on my garage door lol

Black is normal, I guess no one has been to a dyno tune day.

Black is good, blue is oil,heavy white is coolant

I hate the black smoke, so I switched back to E85.

My viii would let out some black smoke at wot and full boost even when the afr's were around 11.6-11.8, every turbo car I've seen has if it isn't then your probably lean. Now on e-85 with afr's around 12-12.3 it doesn't seem Like it smokes as much at wot. With the o2 dump it Just smells like buttered popcorn
