Immediate tune necessary?

Hey everyone. The first mod i'm doing to my 2010 evo x is a top speed pro 1 turbo back exhaust. I'm new to the tuner world and just need some advice as to whether i should install this straight through or keep the cat on with out a tune. I doing upgrades step by step as extra money comes available to me and i was wondering if my car will run like crap if i run the system straight through catless? I'm eventually getting it tuned but wont be for a few months but i am itching to get the stock exhaust off (to quite). Will be tuning approx in mid April. Any feed back is appreciated thanks.

If you want full potential out of the any after market parts you will need to get tuned. My friend had intake/exhaust on his Evo X for few month before he got his car tuned.

Personally I wouldn't hit the gas too hard till you get a tune.

There are tons of threads re: mods before tune. You just gotta search for it. This should help you...

You could always run the cat-back exhaust for now until you are prepared to get tuned. It is highly recommended to get tuned w/ a TBE. And yes... prepare to be flamed for not using the search function.

Enjoy the car!

I don't know why everyone thinks their cars will blow up without a tune. I often wonder if they know how tuning actually works (as in if they have ever attempted it themselves). You can run all the basic bolt on's without any problems the only exception being most aftermarket intakes (except for the ones that don't change the diameter of the maf housing).

The only potential issue with a test pipe is the rear O2 sensor burning up. You'll want a defouler to keep it from doing that (or a pipe that already has it built in). Or you could disable it in the ecu if you have a tactrix cable available to and remove it altogether.

It would be in your best interest to get tuned for the mods on your car. If you do change the intake make sure to get a tune for the car.

Ok thanks for the feed back i just got off the phone with the company who makes the exhaust they claim i don't need a tune at all. I'm just doing a few basic bolt ons to the car and would like to avoid having to get it tuned at all the only thing i may invest in is a cobb access port and mess around with that.

One intake I was told that is safe is the ETS one of the main reasons I went with that until I buy the Cobb or get tuned.

Car will run poorly (super rich, like ~10:1 or richer) under boost running with no cat and a catback exhaust. I ran a full 3" TBE for a while on the stock tune because I was too busy to tune it and it made the car less fun to drive.

Like the others said, it's always best to get a tune after modding the car with any performance part. Simply installing a TBE isn't going to destroy the car, but to get the max potential out of it, you'll want a tune.

Good luck!
